Our Network Engineers have released the unshaping schedule for the weekend. The network will be unshaped as follows:

Platinum - 17:15
Gold - 18:00
Silver - 18:30
Standard, Vanilla and Gamers King / Delight - 18:40

Unshaped accounts will of course remain unshaped :)

Happy downloading!

Hi MrBEEP,

Please recommend a package ...

I have a Telkom 512k WiMAX connection. Please confirm that your packages are compatible with WiMAX ... should be, have used MWEB, WebAfrica and FNB COnnect in past without problems. The signup form requires an ADSL line number ... mine starts with a "W" followed by digits.

Package will be used for downloading only, mostly off the IS news server, but for some torrents as well. Which 1Mb package would give me full line speed (512k) all hours. I'm leaning towards your Silver special right now, or should I get Gold (again keeping in mind that my line speed is only 512k).

I run a pfSense router with dual WAN, so all other traffic is on a CellC Whoosh connection.

bump

Hello

I would suggest the 1Mbps Vanilla Uncapped account for R179. It will be over compensating for what you need, and should work great for your suggested usage profile.

Awesome, thanks MRBEEP!

Just to be on the safe side, I'll pay the extra R10/month for Silver.

Hi Mr Beep

I have been getting very slow speeds on my 50GB capped account.

Yesterday morning I replied to an open ticket on your website and when I got no response I opened a new ticket as I usually get a quick response from you guys.

I again got no response and emailed support@openweb.co.za yesterday afternoon but also got no response. (The two tickets are nowhere to be found now?)

My problem is that you guys blamed Telkom for my speeds of 1 to 2 MB on my 6MB line. I reset my port as you suggested but it was still slow.

I then thought that it may be our exchange that is crap.

On Thursday I applied for a Mweb Test account and then I suddenly got full speeds locally and internationally with great pings even so low as 160 to London. I swapped between the two accounts and the Openweb stayed slow but the Mweb one flew.

Yesterday morning I applied for a Webafrica Test account to verify my results and it gave the same results as the Mweb one with the same fast speeds and great pings.

My conclusion is that the fault must be on your side.

Could you please investigate my account?

Hey everyone

I've been on OpenWeb since friday and the experience has been great the past weekend... My Newsgroup downloads have been flying for the past three days.
Was very impressed... until today :(

Today it's literally between 4 and 10 kb/s. :wtf:
I've tested YouTube and a few other sites, and everything runs fine, except for Newsgroups

Our Network Engineers have released the unshaping schedule for the weekend.
Did I just start my OpenWeb experience with this "Unshaping schedule for the weekend" thing, and now that the "unshaped weekend" has passed, I sit with what OpenWeb really is like?

I'm on the OpenWeb Gold account.
My question is, are our downloads throttled as bad as this during the daytime, every day?

Downloads should not be throttled that badly during the day on Gold, so I'd mail MrBeep if I were you.

I've got a 1mb account and the worst daytime shaping I've experienced so far is 50kb/s during the day. HTTP usually runs full-speed though.
