No, I'm saying the IS network suffered from performance issues when Afrihost relaunched their uncapped last year, and the performance issues went away when Afrihost left.

Openweb makes use of multiple backbones, not just IS.

The vodacom backbone is utterly pathetic.

So then trust Mr Beep and the guys at OpenWEB when he say that it will have no impact on any of their accounts or services to clients.

VB isn't the only other backbone available to Openweb.

I used VB for almost a year and it was the best backbone available. It performed like an unshaped account.

Yes, but if the overall IS network degrades then it's kinda out of MrBeep's hands. Either way, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. No use speculating a month before WA switches.

IS have indicated that this will not affect the performance, as they will increase capacity as required. There are many reasons why the network was slower at one stage, which I am not at liberty to go into. However, there will NOT be a repeat performance, as we have crafted our different service levels to perform a certain way, and if you have become accustomed to its performance, this is how it will remain.

Well, that's good to know then. The IS performance when Afrihost was on the network was awful and the current performance on the IS network is nothing short of amazing. :D

Are the problems only in certain areas? My vanilla account has been performing fine with no problems of any sort, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Hi Mr Beep,

I have a 4mb gold uncapped account with openweb, I am experiencing problems, my connection keeps dropping and then reconnecting, just to let you know how bad it is, i could not even download a 67mb file yesterday. The connection stays for a few hours and then after a while it just drops and reconnects, every 2 mins or so. I would really appreciate your feedback

Hi JessG,

This sounds like your Telkom line is losing sync to the exchange.

Kindly call Telkom on 10210 and have them test your line and router.

Hi snail112

Once Telkom drops our wholesale rate, we will be passing this on to our clients.

Unfortunately, they have not decreased anything for around 2 years now.

Cheaper packages generally see an increase in contention ratio.

MrBeep, are there price changes for current subscribers in the pipeline?

I've been thinking about moving to Openweb, I'm currently on one of their trial accounts, your network is insanely fast. I was just wandering if I should go standard or silver uncapped, maybe someone could provide some input? And how much data I'm allowed to move on a standard/ silver account respectively. I've never received abuse letters before, but for interests sake I would like to know.

Yeah, I'm on the 4M Gamers Delight package and I also gave up. Extreme lag and rubber-banding.

Not supposed to happen with this account and on a weekend on top of it.

Who did you move to?

I cant wait to move to Plugg however I have to wait a whole month with these terrible speeds :(

No bud, you misunderstood.. Or I didn't communicate clearly enough..

I just stopped/gave up gaming for that night due to the bad experience.
Although it has been happening fairly regularly, it is not a constant bad experience thus far.

This is the nature of the beast called ADSL in South Africa. You don't jump ship quickly, you wait it out for a bit.

It is just my PS3 Online Gaming that is affected and not all the time either. My downloads are stellar.

I go an Openweb trial account yesterday and the the stability of connection is miles better than what I currently have with my current ISP. I don't get random disconnects and huge ping spikes randomnly. Definitely switching over to Openweb at end of the month. My livestreams via (twitch.tv) are finally watchable. I had a feeling that my current ISP was shaping livestreams and youtube (after hours). With the Openweb account it's faster during and after office hours and the latency is much better.

What benefits will the gold uncapped on OW offer over the silver? That's my only decision now.
