Hi

Kindly email mrbeep@openweb.co.za with your ADSL username so that I can investigate.

Hi
MrBeep, I am a recent convert from Afrihost, after being able to test Openweb on a trial account. Currently as of today international speeds are basically non-existant. I have called the support centre, they took my number and claimed they would get back to me. So it has been a number of hours. (can't even open Speedtest.net, config fails to load) and when I followed up on call centre was informed that a number of clients are having a similar issue, but there is not a problem with the international speeds as a whole.

So my question here, based on previous response by yourself, that clients on the special offers do not have the same contention ration as the normal rate clients. Does this include Gold Accounts when comparing a regular subscriber, and a promotion subscriber?

Have to say I'm very disappointed in the cancellation procedure.

For the last month I've been trying to get Telkom to fix my line, gave up hope and 3 days ago sent in for a cancellation with Openweb.

Your account will expire at the end of March 2013 as per the calendar months cancellation notice period required.

Frankly with so many competitors out there this is enough to in the future make me go with another isp

I really don't understand when people complain about this when they agreed to these terms when signing up. I can understand if you are frustrated by this but try and work it out with the ISPs support staff instead of moaning about something you agreed to on a public forum.

Its called a opinion, that's what forums are all about. You moaning about other people moaning will achieve just as little as me moaning in the first place

Hi Guys

I hope someone can give me advise of what could the problem be...
I have 6mbps GOLD uncapped account with Open Web and i am on 10mbps ADSL line. Router connects with 8mbps and SNR value is mostly 10-11db, which i believe is perfectly normal right?

Now i dont have problem with Local speeds, in fact most of the time i get 7-8mbps with 20-40ms latency.
However International speeds are terrible, most of the time i get 1.5-2.5mbps and some time in the evenings i get 3.5mbps, latency varies from 180-205ms.

Do you think , this problem is because of exchange, router, my adsl line itself, the ISP? I dont understand it since i am getting constant high local speeds without issue... if it was an exchange or router or adsl issue then my local speeds should also be slow?

I am puzzled since Open Web techs are telling me that there is no problem on their side and that my account is performing well...

Please advise, i would appreciate your input.
Thanks

You are aware that the majority of ISPs use calendar month cancellations, right?

Goodmorning OpenWebbers! We have made it! It is Wednesday! As a midweek bonus, we will be unshaping our network this evening so that you can catch up on those all important downloads! ALL service levels will be unshaped at 18:00 - Wednesday 6 February 2013 until 08:00 Thursday 7 February 2013. Happy Downloading!

Hi Aquadyne,

The network is completely unshaped currently, on all service levels.

It seems like you are dealing with a congested exchange issue. The only problem with this is that Telkom hardly ever admits it.

Telkom did a port reset for me...

Result:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2490426771.png

Slower than 84% of ZA... Awesome...NOT

Router Info:
ADSL Status Mode State Up Speed Down Speed SNR Margin Loop Att.
G.DMT SHOWTIME 512000 4096000 12 47

And then the network is currently supposed to be unshaped...

OK, so I've tried backup Openweb account, Afrihost & Axxess trial account - all very similar results.

Conclusion - Telkom line fault

I reported it. Now we wait... & wait & wait & wait........

You should try contacting Telkom via their new Twitter account. They only recently joined the social media bandwagon, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by their level of service. I think Telkom is trying, or at least that is the impression I'm getting at the moment. The twitter handle is @TelkomZA if you want to give them a try.

I'm seriously considering moving to Openweb from my current ISP. The general consciousness is that service and speeds are good and reliable. I just want to know:

If I take one of their special offers, does that pricing remain like that for the duration of the contract (sure, prices will change over time) but will I later on without warning be given a huge increase in my monthly bill?

And secondly, what time of contract terms do Openweb have? Same as other ISPs that goes from month to month with a 30 day notice, or is there a bit more of a binding contract.

I'm struggling to find this info on the Openweb site. An FAQ would actually be nice that could answer these type of questions.

Yup. Steam is at 12kB/s and Speedtest.net wont load. I think this may be my exchange because it usually does slow down around this time but never this badly.
