Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Is anyone else having issues with authentication, on an after-hours uncapped account (10 Mbps)?

I just can't successfully authenticate / connect with it :(, despite resetting my router to defaults (erasing NVRAM in Tomato). My Afrihost account works fine, which leads to me assume the problem is not with my side, but on Openweb's side.

Never mind, I found the issue. The password sent to me in the "Your new OpenWeb Account Details!" email was the password that I had for last month (but this month's user name). :erm:

I looked at the support ticket again, and noticed the password in the reply was different, so tried that, and all working :)

If only they could sort out the speeds during the day.

Good thing I work and not at home.

Cant even download a 300mb episode on a 1mb line.

I'm super happy with my IS account at the moment, running like a boss. :)

I do think however that they definitely shape us during office hours if you have downloaded more than a certain amount. At the moment my account still show as "Full Access" if I logon to http://users.isdsl.net using my credentials and my downloads are running full speed right now as well.

Just to inform you guys ,I just downloaded 2 episodes with my Afrihost account(IS) one X264 on usenet (I used their server)
and one xvid with torrents.
Afrihost 1mb uncapped.

Started at 6:30

Ouch!

That was not to brag ,just to inform especially the IS users ,how IS performs with other ISPs.

And especially after I was shaped to death during the day.And people still experiencing slow speeds during the day.

Glad you are happy,I was too ,a while back.

Got moved to BCS again last night, and things are going better now. P2P seems basically dead 24/7, but everything else runs fine and it's no longer struggling to log into Steam or certain MMOs.

IS accounts really seem to be shaped to death during office hours to the point where they are utterly unusable.

Erm, guys, were we switched from DSL Haeven to IS?

My username ends with @dslheaven.co.za

This used to be WA, now it's IS?

What's up with that?

Hi

Have you managed to email me? Please mail me asap so that I can investigate this issue

To my knowledge @dslheaven.co.za is the DSL Heaven backbone. @openweb.co.za is IS. One way to check would be to goto http://www.speedtest.net

Nope, it's IS, even my router shows the outside hostname as being on IS, same as speedtest.

My friends OW Gold DSL Heaven says the say the same thing.

Neither of us were notified of the change, and they had problems sending email and only realised later that they were on IS and had to change their SMTP address.

Perhaps MrBeep can shed some light on the subject with regards to this.

Hello,

Yes we have performed a move to our own IPC link powered by the IS backbone on the DSLHeaven side.

An email was sent out around 2 weeks ago informing clients of the move. I do apologise if you have not received it. We are in the process of launching our new CP, and the transfer might be causing some gremlins to take charge.

Overall, this allows us to control our systems in a much slicker fashion. It will also eliminate many of the latency issues clients were experiencing.

Hi Nihilist,

Are you experiencing issues? If so, please can you drop me an email: [email protected]

I checked again, no such email was received. My friend also did not receive notification of this change.

Very disappointed again.

MrBeep

Now that you've moved us to IS, your own IPC and so on. I want to know what the difference is on the service during office hours.

1. Are there any rolling thresholds / time based shaping.
2. What is the difference in FUP compared to DSL Heaven (Web Africa)
3. What is shaped, what is not shaped and what hours are shaping policies in place?

I know that there are differences between Vodacom Business, DSL Heaven etc; but I want to know, preferably in a link on your site what is. I cannot seem to find any reading material on differences.

This account is used by my staff during office hours.

Hello nihilist

1. Are there any rolling thresholds / time based shaping. Shaping is based on the service level you have chosen. Eg Standard - Gold etc. Each service level has its own shaping rules. For Example, Gold is shaped on downloads only during office hours and unshaped after hours.
2. What is the difference in FUP compared to DSL Heaven (Web Africa) We are alot more leniant. We also do not disconnect clients for the network because they use alot of bandwidth.
3. What is shaped, what is not shaped and what hours are shaping policies in place? See item 1
