Quick Question!

How is everyone doing in Overwatch Competetive? I'm interested in seeing how high South-Africans have been able to get ranked? Is there a way of filtering players by Country on sites like masteroverwatch?

I played in Mid-Platinum for two seasons, but have since dropped to gold for Season 6 (ty Blizz). I really want to work up to at least Diamond - I think I can do it. I'm a flex / tank with focus on Reinhardt, Soldier 76 & Mercy.

Please lets not rehash the arguments of latency and ****. I believe everything that can be said on that topic has been said.

Have a great week, heroes!

Started on Comp last season (V) - placed mid-Gold. By the end of the season I was on about 1000-ish SR (mid-Bronze). Steep learning curve - not so much in my own abilities in FPS or team-based games, but at how stubborn other players can be.

This season is more of the same: placed in Bronze (because of how it determines your new rank based on where you finished the previous season). Touched gold again, and then plummeted in solo queue. Have a group I roll with now and we're climbing where we can.

My main problem, as previously stated, is simply other players. Especially DPS. I main Rein as tank, and Zen as support. Yet often have gold damage and elims on both by just doing my job. You know the drill: not enough healers. Not enough tanks. Oh, you must mean "not enough Hanzos"? Players like to "try" new heroes in Comp. Like literally 0mins played. That's what QP and Arcade are for! I also get the feeling that they'll get a cool skin drop and feel obliged to play the hero - even though they don't have a clue.

I've also decided to give the first sort of month of a new season a skip. I can't count how many games I've lost because some **** wants to derank. Of course, it's going to be tricky because seasons are now only 2 months long.

Only my second season. Low gold right now. Same story as above. I'm not a great player but it's frustrating when 3 out of every four matches ends up in a loss because of arguments and the inevitable: "but I'm gold medal" bull. It's gotten to the point where I just add those who try to work as a team and play flex because they are so rare.

I got the game during season 5. I was placed in gold but dropped to around 1800SR. Been playing a lot more this season, placed at 1800ish and pushed up to near 2200. The friend I play with was placed in the 2000s but now we have similar SR.

I know of a friend at uni that just got to plat recently with pharah.

Have to agree with above post, it is such a struggle, being teamed up with people who play torb on attack and claim they will change, but never do.

Do you guys play with a mic? Cause another problem that I have found is no communication in the team, which is a big problem in a game as team-focused as Overwatch.

I do, and that is an issue. Or the opposite, where someone screams and spouts toxic insults and you have to mute them.

Watched a video a while back comparing the NA and EU servers with regards to communication, so decided to test it on my own. It's night and day: NA, just about every game so far everyone is on voice chat - either talking, or at least listening. Toxicity is also quite low. EU, there's the obvious language barrier, and even then at least 1/3 games not everyone is on voice comms - especially when they're in a 2- or 3-stack. I actually asked why they couldn't at least listen in (as a tank, I generally handle call outs, etc) - the response was "we don't want to". So 50% of the "team" pretty much did their own thing, and we got rekt 3-0. And the salt on EU servers is real: throwing when things don't go their way, or they want a character that is already picked, 5 dps, etc.

Of course, NA may not be an option for you guys cause of ping, but I only solo queue there now, and stick to EU for my group games.

I always thought the NA servers were just about unplayable for us, will give them a try in solo queue.

Actually haven't played too much OW recently, it is really frustrating that the outcome of most games to a major degree does not depend on your skill level but the team you're in, and in a bad team it is really hard to achieve anything.

Forgot to mention that I live in the UK - my ping to NA is about 100ms, EU is about 19ms. NA may not be worth it for Saffers back home, though - it's still a shooter, remember.

Had an interesting few games last night. Won the first two - other guys were very chatty (one was playing from a cruise ship in the Bahamas). Third one was a serious scrap on Gibraltar. Had a trash talking Junk on the enemy team: made a point going after him in Battle Mercy mode. Narrowly lost it in the end - graviton + Phara ult wiped us.

I think NA adds about 100-150ms ping for us over EU, and we're already sitting pretty high.

This weekend was better. Stuck to the NA servers after another failed session on EU. Climbed from just over 1500 to 1751 yesterday. Paired up with a guy from the enemy team in the first NA match (which I lost incidently), and we steamrolled.
