Hi everyone,

I am having trouble installing Ubuntu Linux 12.10 on a Packard Bell EasyNote TS. The DVD I am using was used to install Ubuntu on another machine. On this laptop (which is running Windows 8) booting from the disc simply does not go beyond a flashing prompt.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

When Windows 8 was 1st announced there was some mention of a secure boot loader. It's not something I kept track of, but some Googling did find this:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/229413/cannot-dual-boot-ubuntu-12-10-with-windows-8

Unfortunately I have no personal experience in this realm, but let us know how it went.

I'm also guessing it's UEFI related but I'm not dual booting Ubuntu. What I have got working with Windows 8 is Fedora 18 (Red Hat purchased UEFI keys from Microsoft, Ubuntu were going another route I believe?) but the problem maybe machine related.

I hate it when the OP never returns and no one knows what happened.
:(

I'd be interested to know if Fedora 18 Live boots on this Packard Bell.

There was talk about some manufacturers not implementing secure boot for linux keys last year but this is the first incident I've heard of so feedback would be useful.

ugh... What is happening with the world.... Can't install what software I want on my phone (Android locked bootloaders), can't install what software I want on my tablet (Apple locked everything), now you can't install what you want on your PC

Time to back to garage computing and build our own PCs?
