It resets when power resumes so you need to silence it each time the UPS fires up..

Battery probably not fresh, probably also now shot due to you draining it too far

I would say it's fine for the router for 2 hours and maybe the Pi, especially if you upgrade the battery to a 9ah. What type of HDD? If 3.5" with power brink then I think it might drain too much.

Man, that is so ****ing annoying. My APC did the same even after going through the mission of hooking up the (too short) cable and running their kak software. Can't stand it!
 
I do have a backup system:

85W solar panel
200W sine wave inverter
105 Ah deep cycle battery
Solar regulator/charger

And a 220V charger as well which I currently use after shedding to top up.

Perhaps it's time to make this a permanent setup rather than switching during shedding.

Question is: can I leave the 220V charger and solar charger connected permanently at the same time?
 
So after cleaning our staircase closet i found 2 old powercom bnt 600ap units. Initially thought both batteries were done but to my surprise one was still working perfectly.

So now im thinking of experimenting. Can i do the little mod i e read about where people drill holes to extend the cables and then add a bigger deep cycle battery?
If yes, would i be able to add my own charger since the standard unit will most likely be too weak for the bigger battery. I've got one of those smart battery chargers which was used for car batteries. How would i go about using this to charge the battery? Do i simply just charge the battery as per normal while still connected to the UPS charger?

Also it's got the kettle plug points which would have been used for a pc, how would i go about getting a cable for this setup to power my router, ONT and media box?

Also with a bigger battery, is there a possibility i could power a tv as well?

I have an eaton 5E 1500i. IIRC you can turn the beep off via its software, but I do it via a Rpi Zero thats hooked up to it and running NUT.

The issue is the settings are reset if the ups is powered down, hence my little Raspberry pi running a cron job. I also use it to serve a little site showing current power percentage left.

Might be worth trying with their current software. I did this recently and it stayed silent since.
 
I just tested on the new Eaton 850VA that I got to hibernate my desktop, the Eaton software can mute the UPS. I prefer to use Windows to manage my hibernation, will see if the muting stuck now that I have removed the Eaton software and driver again.

I will update after LS is done at 21:30 as I will be out on the road after LS starts at 19:00

Unplugged the Eaton UPS, stays quiet even after removing Eaton software and drivers.

5W for the B315 - 12V 2.1mm DC jack
5W for the EdgeRouter - 12V 2.1mm DC jack BUT currently powered by 24v PoE passthrough
10W for the Access Point - 24v PoE
20W for the NUC - 19V 2.1mm jack but can run on voltages ranging from 12 - 19V
20W for the screen - 19V 2.1mm jack

I ordered one of those Gizzu 8800MAh UPS units from Raru for R775, and will use that to power the B315, EdgeRouter and AP - I am in two minds about the NUC (important as it runs a VM that has my Pi-Hole and Unifi Controller on) and my screen (not too important) and whether I shouldn't rather just move those services to a Pi and run it off the B315's USB port again like I used to

I can't find any online reviews on it so I'm a bit worried about getting it, it looks better than the other UPS's I've been looking at

I'll give a mini-review here once I have it. If it's possible to hack it apart and install more batteries I'd be very impressed, but I doubt it as the form factor looks quite slim. Some of the other ones seem to use standard 18650 batteries which are quite easy to get hold of and cheap to replace.

I also tested out PayFlex that is offered by Raru, so that lessened the financial impact - for now
