Router Battery Backup

I had the RTC, worked great, until Level 4 loadshedding hit, then there wasn't enough time to charge between sheddings and the battery was horribly maimed to death. That 7ah isn't built for this ****.
Then I got the ratel, last year. One load shedding, and it still has 70% left on the battery and it is pulling two routers at the same time.

It also recharges way quicker than the RTC. RTC needs quite a few hours to fully charge after a load shed session. The ratel, from 70% to full charges less than an hour.

Ok awesome, thanks!
Which Ratel, if i may ask?

you bastards, one loadshedding scare and you buy up all the mini UPS stock

seems the "Gizzu" is fast disappearing out of most stock lists, the Ratels as well, ditto for the Uniterm stuff

got the Vizia / SKE daily deal from takealot now instead

My uniterm stuff arrived today. :sneaky:

I think Uniterm didn't have much stock country-wide as they sold out in basically a day. Was thinking of buying one of the 60W units on Sunday evening, come Monday morning they were completely sold out o_O

Oh well, bought a Gizzu (Gizzard? Giblets?) 8.8Ah on Takealot the other day for R750, just hoping that there's no sudden "stock shortage" before the order arrives... The Gizzu is just a rebranded SKE unit anyway, same manufacturer as the the Uniterm range.

I ordered the Gizzu mini UPS yesterday from an unheard-of online store in CT, they phoned me later to tell me someone else had just ordered all the stock Syntech had the same morning - apparently 1270 units. I sent a mail to Geewiz today and they confirmed it was them who bought all of them. Yesterday it was under R900, now they are asking R975 - bloody a**holes

Sorry, have to make a buck in these COVID-Times

Bastids.

I just ordered 2x Gizzu 8800mAh mini UPS's from Geewiz at R975 a pop.

I need to power a fibre ONT, 1x Ubiquity EdgeRouter X, 1x Ubiquiti Switch8 and 2x UniFi AP AC Lite for 2.5h at a time.

If these don't work, they'll prolly go for sale under the "used once" section.

I think that may be stretching the runtime just a little, or you may cut it very close.

I'd buy two and put ONT, ERX and 1x AP on the one, and the switch and another AP on the second one

EDIT: I'm daft, I only saw now you bought two of them. Derp.

Yeah, I didnt think only one was going to cut it.

The AP's are POE powered by the switch, so hoping one Gizzu unit will be strong enough to carry 1x switch and 2x AP's for 2.5h at a time

Yup Geewiz increased the price of all their ups. Freaking hell here I thought the Wootware was annoying

I got me a Gizzu from Incredible connection on Saturday for R 999, probably sold out now again.
Great device. Powering my ONT and TP Link Router as well as power to my Ubiquity AC Lite with the POE output.

Only problem I have is that the POE injector on the Gizzu unit is on 100mbps and I have a 1 Gbps line.

Loadshedding last night only dropped from 100% to 75%.

Lets hope it lasts.

It's raw, but it works..

And no it only looks like piss, its whiskey lime & lemonade 'cos why the hell not?

I want to do something similar, well kinda

My ONT and router are in the garage against a wall. One of my garage door motors is about 1.5 metres away hanging from the ceiling. It has a backup battery connected. I've been toying with the idea of connecting both the ONT and router to the battery and see how long it lasts. Both devices require 12v (Raycore ONT and D-Link router from Afrihost).

:) Priorities, Can't open the garage, but at least we had internet.

Evening everyone,

I have a few Gizzu’s arriving tomorrow if anyone is still looking, also hoping to get the Ratel 430 early next week for testing before I list for sale so will keep everyone posted on how that goes.
