Router Battery Backup

I don't have this issue with my Ratel 860P or the Netogy Mini UPS 100, I put both through their paces when my substation blew up and I was without power from 2 weeks. Used those two UPSes one after the other when I wasn't running the generator.

Did you run the 860P battery flat?

There are no cycles, only when there is load shedding would a cycle be initiated.

You wanting to plug it out and discharge it will cause cycles and far more hard as lithium batteries do not do well being left to fully discharge.

With this kind of device we are talking about years before the battery would be a concern.

He means if it’s completely been depleted and wasn’t “on” when the AC was restored.

I think most would require this as that’s how they work out of the box, but it’s a very rare event to completely run it flat.

Yeah, I understand now what he was saying. Strangely I never had to switch mine back on again even if it runs completely flat. It simply just starts charging again and the router power is restored at the same time.

Yeah never had the condition myself to know, but I do recall having to hold the button the very first time I used it out of the box so would understand if it was required in a full flat scenario again.

Makes sense. I don't have the Ratel, mine has a manual on and off switch. I would have thought the Ratel will shut down before it's completely drained and keep the state at least.

Think mine is the UltraLan but has a similar hold to turn on procedure.

Thanks for that info. I thought the battery would naturally discharge (while not in use) which triggers a recharge.
If a cycle is 100% - 0% then that obviously changes things. Thanks

From its specs: Battery Type: Lithium battery 2200mAH

That is very little. You should try for at least 10800mAH.

Edit:That is the size that I have and its been a few years now

I have a similar one, it powered my Mikrotik HAP AC2 for 3.5 hours

Similar battery size? There is alot of similar looking UPS on the market but with different battery sizes.

You do need a 12v 2amp power supply, which it does not come with. It is been solid over the years.

Yeah just want to know how long the battery lasts ? I will probably go off the gird in a year so dont want to waste money, would rather pay R1000 for something that works if the R 500 doesnt but don't wont to waste money if the R500 is fine
 
Deepcycle Gel batteries - Any good ? One seller just told me it gets too hot here in SA, the gel becomes snotty.
 
Paid R1200 for mine, I would say it is a worthy investment for the 'larger capacity ones' mine runs the HAP AC2 for 3.5 hours - Loadshedding aint going away
