Router Battery Backup

re 4 hours: Not sure how it would manage that. Are your actively using the laptop during the 4 hours? Your laptop would need to draw only 11w in order to last 4 hours on one of these.

What cpu does it have?
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-7100U CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz

I have fitted an SSD, that may help reduce power consumption.

@wingnut771 - screen brightness normal, wifi connection to router that is a couple of meters away.

I use the machine full time, working on MS Word, with frequent online searches to Google for fact-checking. General email/online browsing/reading/shopping in between.

Home Assistant runs full time in VM.

USB serial converter attached, uploading data packages to cloud service every 5 minutes.

External USB audio 'card' attached.

Typically 10+ tabs open on Chrome.

On the way home, stopped at Kloppers, they have a 100wh Photon UPS for R1300.00 which I think is fairly reasonable. Any one have any experience with that brand? Has 2 three point plugs for output.

I guess the low power consumption is due to the fact that it is a very entry level CPU (on par with some more modern Celerons in terms of performance) .

I see it only scores 2700 points on cpu benchmark. But if it works, it works...

My one laptop (older i7) uses around 60w while idling and it won't last an hour on one of those mini upses.

Are you sure it wasn't R13000 and 1000W?

Could be, saw it in passing, as I went into the pay point, was late for the pharmacy, and had to get the wife's chronic meds.

Not familar with the brand. They had two different models. Same size and shape.

You know with all these Gizzu's and whatnot I can't believe no one selling a simple male-to-male 2.5mm

Was helping someone set up a Gizzu today that had 3 devices. All 3 use 2.5 and you only get 2x2.5mm cables and a splitter in the box.

Ironicly the Splitter is split into 2 x female. Also you would think that they would include male-to-male connectors to work with the splitter. ie: something like this:

Anyway:
My Google foo seems to be lacking cause, I can only find cabled 2.5mm male-to-male on Takelot and they are 1.2m cable that cost R199

Geewiz sells cables for R39 but adds R100 shipping:

Any other obvious options out there that I am missing?

Buy a bunch of plugs and sockets from communica. They have various sizes. You can turn make up any combination that you prefer.

Shipping is also R100, but if you include eg a nice soldering iron to bring the Cart total above R1000, shipping is free

Some links;
www.communica.co.za/products/mp121m

Just search for "power connector" and sort price low to high...

I just picked up a DC splitter at my local electronics/cctv place:

Thanx for the options.

But guess I have to go with Geewiz, just need to add some other items I don't really need to make up for the delivery.

Surely the female ext must be an error... Probably just an packing mistake.

I also battled to find the correct cable as I needed three devices connected with different voltages so a splitter wouldn't work and I needed more than 2 connections as well.
I think the biggest problem was what to call the cable, different places called it different things.

Good luck putting male to male into a website like Takealot.... I had to exclude some very niche sections to get anything useful in my results.

In the end I found a cable making company in Northgate Island (CT) who makes them up and they had a few spare.
The other thing is that what I found is most people are looking for an extension as the OEM splitter is very short and their ONT is not close to their router.
So a lot of these cables are 2m+ because that is what people are asking for.

All good I found one via Geewiz as in my post, and ordered it this morning.

Just paying R100 shipping for a R37 cable is painful so ordered some other odd and ends to make it worth my while (Network crimper and tester and such)

Bar the 2 Male-to-male 2.5mm this is what I got:

1678119951450.png

Do suspect its normal as it came from a sealed box.

What's in the box
1 x Gizzu 60W Mini DC 65Wh UPS – Black
1 x 1m Ac Power Cable
2 x 1m 2.5mm DC Power Cable
1 x 30cm DC Splitter Cable
1 x 5.5 x 2.1mm DC Adapter
1 x 4 x 1.7mm DC Adapter
1 x 3.5mm x 1.35mm DC Adapter
1 x User Manual

Yes I think it is normal (my Gizzu also came with one) so it can be used if someone has two 9v devices, as there is only one output for 9/12v volts selectable, the other dc outputs on the back are 12v. The other two leads they provide are male-male, if 9v is needed one would use both of these plugged into the male-female splitter.

The older ultralan unit I used had a male-male splitter, but then it only had that short splitter and nothing else. I ended up having to get a female-male extension for it, seems to be a common situation given how short those splitter cables are on many of these mini-UPSs and how many of them don't provide other cables at all.

Netogy is 14 400mah, my laptop has a 4400mah battery and that lasts about 2 hours, so with that is should last at minimum 4 hours.
Gotta keep in mind the ah rating can't be used like that

the only one that can be used like that is the watt, ie a watt on 3.2v is a watt at 12v is a watt on 220v (with some losses to heat stepping up or down or to make dc ac though)

ie if the cells are 3.2v in some models and the AH applies to that voltage

Below is using a all cells parralel notion no idea how the cells are arranged in the device you refer to as i hve no WH rating to determine that

ie 18800 at 3.2v lifep04 cells would mean

18.8 x 3.2v would mean you have 60.16wh

Or li-ion cells would be
18.8 x 3.7v =69.56wh

While laptop battery if lets say 3 cells series

4.4ah x 11.1v =48.84wh

Side note
the cells a battery is based on can be determined if you have the WH rating and the AH rating

And also get an idea of how the arrangement of the cells are , ie all parralel or series config

This 8800mAH unit is a UPS system , and not too expensive R615.01 at loadshedbuddy.durban

Please note this person is not related to https://loadshedbuddy.co.za/ or @Thor.

This person also changed its website now giving a different Web address on the forum.

The first website advertised (gensixtech.co.za) was this:

It has one review and the location in Durban is here:

And later he decided to use a website similar to loadshedbuddy (which is in Cape Town)

Awesome thread guys!

I need a GIZZU 60W 69Wh 21600mAh Mini POE DC UPS, I see takealot has no stock?

Any other reputable place?

I see Incredible Connection has In Stock, but they don't confirm that it is the newer LiFePO4 one...

You can use this math to determine which it is

21.6ah *3.2v = 69.12whth

While if it was a nmc 3.7v cell

21.6* 3.7v =79.92wh

If i google i get one that is 17600mah and 65.wh

17.6ah * 3.7v = 65.12wh so that one is nmc type cells

Correct away if got something wrong

Edit

And checked their site no mah rating listed so unless if you call them and they can give you the mah rating you are in the same boat still no closer to knowing
