Router Battery Backup

I picked up the Elecstor Mercury Edition 100W 75WH LiFePO4 Mini UPS today.

It's on sale for R429 @ Takealot.

This should be below cost, surely? It's a steal. The black version goes for R999 @ Takealot. The same one goes for R1 436 @ Geewiz. These were prices above R1600 in when loadshedding was still a daily occurrence.
I wonder how they manage that price.... I think the batteries alone cost more

So soon it'll be back to that?

I'm not sure. Unless they desperately want to offload stock for some reason, I guess the price will return to normal soon. I ordered yesterday because I assumed it would be back to the normal price today. But it is still available at the moment.

Also found and ordered the Elecstore Mercury at R429. Great price for what is promised.

However, the unit I received has a broken warranty seal. It's a very clean cut and barely visible. Looks like it's either very intentional, or very unintentional.

Anyone here who received one recently? What does the warranty seal look like on yours?

Not sure how good the warranty even is, but I guess I'll have to send the thing back.

Refurbished units?

Refurbished units?
That's a possibility.

The original production date on the warranty seal is 7/23. There is a chance that the manufacturer went in to service the battery pack after a year in storage, but I would think they would have added a new seal then.

I'll have it exchanged, as I don't like the other possible explanations and want the warranty.

Thanks for the heads-up, I have one arriving sometime today so I'll check that.

EDIT: Just received, warranty seal also cut/torn. Placement makes it difficult to tell if it's intentional or not, there's quite a bit of flex in the side panel at that point and placement of the sticker makes it susceptible to damage.

I'll test it out this evening. According to the specification is should be able to deliver 5V and up to 3A. So 15 watt. It's not a fast charger, but also not useless by any means.
Has anyone managed to test the USB-C on these units?

I don't have a usb-c mode tester, but multiple phones all charge with 5V 1A. I have a couple of Powerbanks which charge at 5V 1.6A. However one high capacity QC/PD Powerbank (from ZMI) does not charge from the port at all.

I'd say the usb-c port should not be factored too highly. For most users it would be more beneficial to add a QC/PD usb-c board to the 12V output (of any ups).

Are the 12v outputs high wattage, 5A?

All the Elecstor stuff i got from TA was used and seals also broken. One can see fingerprints on it and the Lifepo4 9ah and 24ah batteries all had scuff marks all over and bottom corners looked liked someone used sandpaper on it. The metal terminals all had marks on it from pushing terminal on to it. Let me check if i still have all the pics

My unit I got from HiFi Corp that time was sealed with plastic wrapping and the box tab was taped down.

Apart from the warranty sticker issue, the power/mode switch requires so much pressure to operate that I wouldn't be surprised if some of these units were returned to the supplier for not switching on. It's really bad - I was on the point of giving up and sending it back.

Do these Elecstore units have a fan making them less than silent?

They've been on sale for R429 on and off for a while now.

I bought one a while back and the warranty sticker is also broken. It may just be because of the case design and where it's placed, I can't see that anyone would to the effort of opening them up etc, and if they did they could have just replaced the sticker.

I've not actually used mine yet, going to give it a test now.

the fan noise is nothing its not loud at all. It only comes on when load is about 10w odd in battery mode
That's not good, I specially bought a mini pc with no fan because unless the fan is barely spinning they become noisy and even more so as the device ages, 10W is hardly much of a draw. What does the fan cool, the buck/boost converters?
