modem used in the official kies update?

Hi there,

Could someone please tell me which modem you guys got when it updated to ICS via KIES, specifically the people on MTN (if they got updated yet ;) )

TiA
Cheers

I don't think ICS will compare with GB when it comes to battery life. I am on 33% after 21hrs with 2hrs screen on time and 1hr phone calls.

I disagree. I have had 2 days straight of no charge with 12% remaining, and also usually have 85% after around 14 hours of usage. Similar usage pattern to yours.

This sounds promising!
Which rom are you using?
Which kernel?
Do you UV or UC?
What settings for UV or UC?
Which governers and I/O scheduler?

Resurrection Remix 1.9 is out. Gonna upgrade soon!

Btw, does anybody run Ubuntu/Kubuntu on their PC? Can you get your GS2 to show up in the file explorer via usb connection? I have resorted to using Wifi File Explorer app...

For the ignorant among us, what app be this? :o

It's an app that helps you controll which apps does what and when. It is supposed to help you save on battery power. There are arguments amongst developers that you should not use it because it causes wakelocks that might prevent your phone from sleeping and thereby causing battery drain. But having said that, if it works for you, then go for it!

I have stopped using apps like that personally. I use Titanium backup to freeze certain system apps I don't use like game hub, social hub, and some others. And then I play around with kernels to undervolt and/or underclock my CPU.

Another app people like is SetCPU. Which will do the undervolting/underslocking for you when you select certain governers and I/O schedulers. for some reason SetCPU started acting up when I went over to ICS and subsequently I uninstalled it.

I guess one can try using a modified kernel with JuiceDefender to save power ... Maybe that will be the ultimate to get 2 days with moderate usage of the phone.

I wonder how crap the S3 will be in terms of battery life. Bigger screen, stronger CPU, does not bode well

Which rom are you using? FoxHound GreyFox V2 - XWLP9
Which kernel? Siyah v3.2.1
Do you UV or UC? Nope, standard frequency and voltage settings.
What settings for UV or UC? None- all in the governor settings via ExTweaks
Which governers and I/O scheduler? This is what has made a massive benefit for me, battery wise.

It's a bit lengthy to list all the settings I have made, link below:
Battery tweaks for Siyah and other kernels

Only difference is that I am running it in single core mode. Absolutely no loss in performance, neither with this ROM or MIUI. Oh, and because the link above doesn't specify, I have it on smartassv2 governor and sio scheduler.

I have a screenshot of the battery life, will figure out how to upload it in a bit :D

EDIT: Before I forget- make sure that you reset your fuel gauge. I have found that the best way to do this, is to charge your phone to 100%, do a battery pull, leave the battery out for at least 5 minutes, then put the battery back in and boot up. It was after doing that, that I my battery life improved. MIUI screws that up though, I still need to figure out why.

JuiceDefender actually gave me headaches. Messed around with my 3G and refused to be uninstalled. I had to eventually remove it using Total Commander.

And I have had my best battery life without Juice Defender :)

On a side note: does anyone know how to attach a picture from your PC to a post? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just cannot seem to find out how...

If its Nova launcher, do you reckon I would have to redesign my homescreens? i.e. I cannot restore my Apex launcher settings etc?

How are you experiencing Nova so far?

Yes unfortunately you would have to redesign your homescreen. I have been using Apex for a long time and loved it. I however switched over to Nova because it's more compatible with Tablet UI's and I have stayed with it since. Nova has some nice features like creating extra tabs in the app menu and some other minor things that Apex lacks. I must add however that I'm using the Prime (paid) version of Nova.

Try Desk-Migrate. I'm not sure if it only works for GO Launcher or not.

Is there anyway to remove the flash counter having stock vodacom ics on. My triangle went away, but I can't get rid of the flash counter. I have triangle away on my phone but that didn't work, and the jig also didn't take it away.

Hey guys, I very recently started getting an error on my phone. When NOT on charge it comes up with an error "Charging paused. Voltage too high". You then press OK and it goes away but after a minute or two comes back and this continues until I put it back on charge or sometimes replacing the battery helps and it doesn't show again for a few hours. When this message comes up the batt icon also starts flashing continually.

I have googled and gone through many threads on XDA and elsewhere but nobody seems to have an answer, some swear it's hardware and others swear it's software. Most have it sent in and get it repaired under warranty.
I want to send mine in but would like to have the custom binary counter reset just in case, does anyone here have a jig that lives in pta and wouldn't mind helping me? Would really appreciate it.... please PM me otherwise I might miss it if somebody offers.

-> I have tried all the 'fixes' I have read on the various sites and none worked for me.
