This might be a stoopid question, but when we select WIPE when we flash a new custom ROM what exactly does it wipe?

Im a bit ocd with some things and I would like to know how do I nuke this phone entirely, like as in, format the whole thing so there is NOTHING on here.

Im see a lot of straggling folders and bits from old roms, and thats after a WIPE.

and one more thing,

my battery said 50%

I turned device off, did a battery pull, device back on. Now it says 35%.

Is my battery screwed?

/data gets wiped - your application data. Your photos, documents, etc. are generally fine. Always good to do a backup before though, just in case.

Im downloading this from Sam Mobile

I9100XWLSS_I9100OJCLS4_XFA.zip

Would someone be able to confirm if I am able to flash this in ODIN?

Or am I bound to flash this in recovery. I cannot currently access recovery, there is something wrong with my phone.

Its showing up in ODIN though, so Im trying to bring it back to life :o

Phone appears to boot, flashes the Dorminx kernel splash page, then phone goes off... To make matters worse my mDS card died this afternoon, so even if I COULD access CWM I dont have a mDS to copy an .ZIP custom rom onto... to flash...

Yes, you can flash this in ODIN, if it is the ODIN setup. Recovery and ODIN downloads are different. Generally though, SamFirmware downloads are ODIN-specific.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

My wife's S2 is getting hot as hell and then draws power like you cannot believe.
Last week she had the same issue after she started it in the morning. It was off the whole night. I removed the battery and when putting it back after a while, it was fine.

Last night, we switched off all the power due to a threatening storm, switced off the phones that were on charge and early this morning put it back on charge. After disconnecting the charger, it started getting hot again. I removed the battery for a while , put it back in, but it still draws a lot of power and becomes very hot.

My wife is on her way to Durbs for the day, om te gaan werk, Boetie, and she SMS-ed just now to say that she is going to switch off her phone to see if there is an improvement.

Any help anyone can offer?

Download an app like BetterBatteryStat's or Wakelock detector and see if any wakelocks are keeping the device from going into deep sleep.

Wakelocks should not be a cause of overheating. I think it is more to do with an app/function that pushes the processors to work at the maximum and therefor the heat issue. In the past when experimenting, I encountered this with Siyah - not using the phone and it gets hot or just charging and it gets hot. I sometimes still encounter the phone getting hot, but only when I am charging the phone whilst copying data over to my NAS via wi-fi. Now using Apolo with NeatROm Lite and the occurrence of overheating is less than in the past. Philz kernel (stock based with root injection), also tend to get hot for no reason from time to time. Hence the change.

EDIT: Just read a bit on wakelocks and it seems that you were in fact correct. Spotify being one of the culprits mentioned. So yes Gert.M, use BBS to see what causes the wakelocks.

Thanks, guys. I will for sure try the cure you suggest.
By the way, when my wifw got back yesterday, I removed the battery again for a while and uninstalled some updates to certain apps, and the phone is running cool again....for how long I will see.

Make a note of those apps - then google them for the overheating and see if one of them is a culprit

So I see they are rolling out the stable versions of CM10.2. The SII is not on the list, so I assume our support end at the 10.2 nightlies. I'm not ready to let my SII go yet, but support is dwindling it seems.

I reckon the mighty S2 can still easily do the official Kitkat ROM, but Samsung wants you to get a new phone.

I'm still ecstatic with the official JellyBean ROM on mine. :)

FTFY

Yeah it seems that is their strategy :/
