Extremely tempting as a upgrade on my current phone. If only they come down in prices before end of the year - R280 a month is a bit much for me!

hey guys.

I got a friend heading through Bangkok International quite soon and I might ask him to pickup the phone there in Duty Free for me.
Does anyone know whether the phone from that area of the planet will work in SA? Are there even different versions worldwide now?

Thanks,
Cuan

+1 ... would like to know this also :)

I wish there was a way to sync this on web, or better sync with my Google Maps. I have lots of my favourites on Google Maps already and now I have to start from scratch to create favs on this Route 66.

I cant wait for the Google Maps Navigation to launch in SA.

Download Brut Maps, its the cracked version of google maps which works in south africa with voice guided navigation, it really is amazing.Google brut maps, go to the xda result, download the brut maps that says renamed

Are you serious dude wtf , its not even a month old , well i still have my phone on route since i got it imported from the uk so i m not sure about the vodacom one,

Yup! I could cry... Went and got a cheapo "cut out yr self" screen protector, will do until the SGP gets here. Nice big scratch right in the middle of my beautiful screen. Sigh. Oh well, only 728 days till upgrade...

Hi.

Does any1 know how reliable this phone is on Virgin Mobile, and how reliable virgin mobile is, especially with 3G/HSDPA. there offer on this phone seems a decent price R320pm (1000 sms, R300 Airtime, just no data bundle, data @ 60c Meg), I just dont know what they are like, and cant really pay the payin that Vodacom is asking.

and how long did it take to get shipped ? or did you pay the $27.50 Priority Mail International , Express Mail International $30.45 of which is more than the item price
I bought the olephobic screen protector as well.. but yes paid for the priority shipping.. Little extra to protect my phne sooner.. well worth it IMO.. Rather that than a nice long scratch...

EDIT: Took just over a week. ordered Sunday, got it the week after on Tuesday.

How do the screen protectors affect the touch sensitivity on capacitive displays?

Well I got mine through virgin, love the speeds! get around 6mbps

I haven't used it extensively as I had other stuff to do after I flashed it. It does feel snappier than the stock version and the phone in general feels more responsive. I will get back to you on the battery life topic when I have used it for a few days. By the looks of the graph and based on my usage so far, it seems much better, but I will confirm that with you in the week. Flikka reported the battery life to be better though. I'm very pleased with it, but that might change as I use it more. I hope it doesn't dissapoint.

My battery life seems more or less the same, if not slightly worse. I am, however, using the insecure kernel and not the one that came with the XXKG1 2.3.4 update. I'm going to give it another two days, and then I will start disabling the Samsung apps as it has been reported to eat battery life, especially the "Software Update". Here is a list of apps that can be disabled: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html and here is a thread about the "Software Update" process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144099. Thanks for that, Flikka.

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO 4 real this time :) :) :)

19 Jul 2011 14:32:00 Elandsfontein Shipment Delivered In Good Condition.

Had received my order this afternoon, and when I came from work, its nicely parcelled on my home desk...
Installed it straight away and boy, this Neo Hyrid is wicked. The Ultra Crystal Clear Screen Protector fits perfectly, and for a change, I didn't botch up the installation of it, not a single bubble, perfectly in its place. You cannot even see theres a screen protector on my SGS2. Very impressed with it. Haven't even opened up the MHL Cable nor the 32gb microsd, but how about this, I can tell ya, that, I ordered the Class 2 microsd, but I GOT A FRIKKEN CLASS 10 MICROSD........................ Count me f#$%ing lucky, or whatever you want to call it, hehe. I can proudly say: "I ROBBED THE SYSTEM" :)

Now to do some research on rooting, backing up stock ROMs, and flashing this baby. As Swift has said, this is going to be one busy weekend :)

Cheers
D

My pleasure

I just flashed 2.3.4 KG2 and already my battery is better its amazing. What I do is run my battery flat to 1% and then only recharge it full via USB when my pc on/off (Works when pc/laptop is off) so its very slow. I also overcharge it by 2 hours or so and by doing this my battery lasts longer. This is also a method of battery calibration. My battery at time of writing is at 69% with 15 hours from last charge so that not bad at all.

On page 27 on this thread for KG2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174161 they give info to root the phone again as flashing new firmware removes root.

I have flashed a frankenstein KG2 developed by Infratech that includes the KG2 firmware and XEU CSC as he stated it should work. It does work as in I dont notice any difference from the multi CSC. When Infratech finally finds the South African CSC you can simply just flash that CSC to make it country stock or w/e you want to call it but for now XEU or Multi CSC is our only option. You can find the KG2 XEU in this thread listed under frankenstein firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

Someone told me that charging via usb makes their battery last longer as well.

That is some really impressive battery life! Is that with the stock xxkg1/2 or with those samsung apps removed/frozen as well?
