SEACOM downtime continues

Well I'll ask AfriHost to either refund my money or roll over to next month. Bought 4GB before all this c@rp started, an I have to be compensated by them.

and now I have to get a pre-paid SAIX account to get connected.

I think they should offer us a rollover of unused data if they can't get this fixed before the end of the month. I still have 3GB's on my Axxess Lite account.

Don't post such uneducated one liners.

This got nothing to do with your ISP. It is SEACOM. Which consists out of multi national consortium & businesses.

If ALL POSSIBLE CONNECTIVITY was down, I would agree with you, but Pixual has a valid complaint. There are ISPs who have redundancy in place. Some MWeb and WA customer seem to be enjoying international connectivity at the moment. Why should you pay for something you are not receiving? I recall a few months ago my US host had downtime for a mere 3 hours and gave all it's affected customers that month of hosting for free. This is the kinds of service level I expect and anything less in simply unacceptable.

Well,

1) Postpone repairs due to rough weather.
2) Commence repairs when things are calmer.
3) Something small goes wrong during repairs extending estimated repair time for a couple of hours.
4) Weather gets worse during those couple of hours.
5) Sit with half-finished repairs with rough seas making it too risky to continue.

Not saying that is what happened but this scenario is entirely possible. And to those saying that they should have looked at weather reports... nature is a rough and often unpredictable beast. Watch the news much?

I watch the news. I'm no expert but I don't plan to paint my house in the rainy season and hope for a sunny day. You would think they knew what they where doing by now...

Did you reboot your computer?

:D

ALERT: SEACOM Maintenance STILL IN PROGRESS

Last updated: 16h00 26th April 2010

Please be advised that the SEACOM cable is currently offline for maintenance. SEACOM maintenance was scheduled to be done on Saturday 24th April.

There is currently no expected time of resolution and we will update this status page as we get updates.

Services such as Instant Messenger and websites hosted overseas(google, facebook) have been affected.

Local speeds have not be affected.

As a temporary solution, Afrihost has setup a proxy server that will offer international access through our hosting infrastructure untill SEACOM is back online.

Please note that this is experimental and international access speeds will be throttled. Please note that you won't be able to access YouTube and several other media streaming sites and services.

Please set your browser to Automatically detect your proxy settings and set the proxy URL to http://www.afrihost.co.za/proxy.pac

If you have trouble accessing any websites after SEACOM is active again, please remove the proxy server settings.

^ btw the proxy doesn't work. *sigh*

How can they plan repairs well in advance??? If it breaks now... Does it not need fixing now? Unless ofcoz you want "broken" internet til next summer........

MWEB ADSL browsing outage affecting all regions
Based on the latest feedback we have received from Seacom this afternoon , it now seems likely that the repairs to their undersea cable will only be completed by Friday the 30th of April. The work is being severely hampered by poor weather conditions at sea. Whilst we have been able to secure alternative international bandwidth for the full duration of the repairs, there is some congestion on these links and it is affecting our service. Bandwidth-intensive applications such as peer-to-peer will therefore be de-prioritised until sufficient capacity once again becomes available. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may be causing you and thank you for your patience during this time. We will continue to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis and as and when we receive updates we will notify you via our Free The Web site and via our online outages noticeboard.

Sainet UP - Company response

Thanks to IPINX redundant strategy Sainet managed to deliver International access in the midst of the Seacom repair period, although contended but we're satisfied to deliver.

Well done IPINX

Ok, So I'm using Afrihost. I'm not able to use my Gmail account or do anything except for browsing local websites, which I hardly ever do.

The Proxy Afrihost put on their website doesn't make a difference at all. NWTF????!!!!!!!!??!
