Skyworth Binge Android TV box

@ support.
Purchased the skyworth android box from takealot a week ago and was very happy with the quality and capabilities of the little box UNTILL a few hours later when it would randomly freeze completely and NOTHING on the remote would work. (Even holding down the power button). So i had to pull the plug, let it restart but it happens again and again. So exchanged the unit. New 1 arrived today....and guess what?
SAME ISSUE!! any advise/suggestions?

I would suggest you just get a S905X2 device from Gearbest.
4GB RAM and 64GB Storage, GPU also 5x faster, CPU almost twice as fast for a similar price.
Then install a custom firmware like this - https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/tv...s-magisk-rooted-and-many-others-fixes-and-mod
You will also be able to run DSTV, but Netflix will be limited to 540p.
Or you can get a different S905X(read in the forums which ones other users are using) and also install a custom firmware from https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/tv...bx/766691-rom-poisonatv-s905x-new-v4-20190317, DSTV will work and you can run CoreELEC to get 720p Netflix.
You won't experience any of the bugs these Google Certified devices have.
These custom firmwares can't work on the Skyworth, Lit box or Xiaomi devices as they have locked bootloaders that block other firmwares.

Are you keeping it plugged in during load shedding?

We are still investigating the freezing issue at this time. We will feedback when we have an update. Please bear with us while we run our tests - it isn't as simply reproducible on all setups, and we need to be able to reliably reproduce it in order to get to a root cause.

I got mine a week ago. Dstv Now and ShowMax are streaming perfectly. Netflix is still an issue. Anyone know where I can download the correct APK file for Oreo 8.0?

Just to give you some feedback - and we apologise for the lack of communication here - one of the reasons updates on some of these issues are taking a while is we are investigating moving to Android P. It would not make sense to resolve all issues on O if P resolves them for us. I will try and get a timeline, but Google certification does always seem to take longer than we plan for.

Do you have a reference number for your return to Takealot? We would like to get a hold of that box.

Any thoughts on this new box? Price seems great for official Android TV + Chromecast functionality

This box is great, i have tried almost every box on the market and set up roughly 50 for customers and this is the one for me. It has the same spec as the Telkom LiT Box and Mi Box but is packaged much better and includes batteries for the remote. It also has an ethernet port to plug directly into your router which the mi Box does not. Many of the Android Certified boxes cant play the latest version of Netflix but you can get around this simply by loading an older version of Netflix. This is the best Android device currently in the SA market and it so happens to be the cheapest by a long way. Other boxes I have tried and ranked in order of preference

1. Skyworth Binge (Still the best regardless of its cheaper price point)
2. Xiaomi Mi Box (Great but no ethernet port)
3. Telkom LiT box (Newly improved with upgraded remote and software)
4. MyGica 1960 (Not Google certified and does not run Android TV interface)
5. Astrum (Will never buy again, slow and frustrating)

Make sense. Is there however a rollback procedure to the previous non buggy version

We will investigate the potential of having a rollback procedure, but we'd hope to resolve all the open issues by the upgrade. We would not release any build prior to the current one however.

The constraint here is that the Google certification process is quite long. I will also investigate the possibility of beta testing for interested users, but any beta builds would lack Google certification.

A single post ... interesting.

So you'd buy the Binge over the Telkom LIT box, because it's packaged better - and has batteries?
But as the Binge isn't Netflix approved, you're going to battle endlessly with that? Download APKs or old versions?

I reckon the only two to look at - in this order - because you need Netflix approval.

1. Telkom LiT box (Newly improved with upgraded remote and software)
2. Xiaomi Mi Box (Great but no ethernet port)

You're funny

Anyone else having issues with no sound on Plex?
I've tried adjusting every sound setting I could find but still nothing.

I really hate myself for recommending this box to a family member over spending a bit more for the Lit box.
Especially since the main things they use it for is Netflix, Plex and HDD playback (which also doesn't work with certain formats)

Has anyone managed to get netflix, youtube, amazon prime, etc. to work on the device? Either loading the app itself or casting it
