Skyworth Binge Android TV box

ES File Explorer appears to be falling out of favour. We've found File Commander to be better, however the difference may be between Android 7 and Android 8. Android 8 has a bunch of changes that are in the long run better but do cause the occasional headache.
I download and install most of my APK files in the Puffin Browser

I'm not sure if this is a new bug, or an old one I missed while waiting for the update. I can't get USB write permission. Even trying to create a folder on the USB, I get this message.

Then I get a message similar to 'No program to do this," when it should give a window like this.

I have tried using different file managers. ES and FX give me the first window or similar, while File commander just give "read only" message.

If I format USB as shared storage, I can use it, but then can't use it on another device.

Any ideas?

Did the update fix the casting issues? Has anybody tested it yet?

We have reproduced the issue. From the logs we are mounting devices read-write. This may be another Android 8 permissions issue. We will investigate and confirm this.

My box feels very slow after the update.
Our internal tests show this should not be the case. However, it may depend on the apps installed, and the new build does include Google's latest security patches. If it is bad, you could try a factory reset.

Cannot cast from my Iphone on the Netflix app, shows cannot connect to Device

Netflix casting will not work due to Netflix's additional device check requirement. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that. You should be able to cast other services (YouTube, Amazon Prime, etc).

I have issues with wifi connectivity after running the update. After coming out of screensaver wifi is disconnected. Then sometimes it also disconnects by itself

Been having this issue even before the update. Not a major problem but can be frustrating to keep reconnecting

Well for me if I try to reconnect it just says 'connecting' and nothing happens. I then have to restart the box to fix it. Really annoying

We haven't seen this in testing. Would you be able to assist us with a couple more details? 2.4GHz/5GHz and if you are using wifi roaming? Thanks.

There is a bug(we believe to be related to Google, but we are confirming that) where wifi can switch off by itself after a restart, but reconnecting should be seamless once the wifi is switched back on.

Using 2.4Ghz about 10 meters away, 2 walls. So not sure if distance is a factor here but my other cheap chinese tv box works fine

Updated my box yesterday. Still useless with audio passthrough, as if nothing really changed.

It's fine for Youtube (which works well now) but definitely not a candidate for any home theater setup. I'll probably give mine away to somebody.
