Telkom ADSL 8Mbps :)

8MB would be nice, but we don't have the BW for it either.
Just think about it;

It's true what they say, the faster the line, the faster you kill your BW.

*sigh*
8MB still will be cool.
Neotel has comp coming! :)

+1

ADSL speeds are determined, amongst other factors, by distance from exchange.

I think maximum is about 5km or something. Beyond that then no ADSL.

I think, to achieve 8mb/s, you need to stay within a couple hundred meters.

A couple of hundred meters if you want 24mbit line yea, the 8mbit can be achieved at a max distance of about 1.7km, and 4mbit is at a max of about 4km.

Yes, the faster the line, the faster your cap is nailed. But you clearly see how this would benefit Telkom or other providers. More cap extension purchases, more profit.

rift cheaper adsl and bandwidth = more customers = more money

telkom have no sense of how to make money

if they could get adsl into lets 5 millions homes and charge a rate of 450 for uncapped 8 meg adsl

they would make way more money they do now but instead they choose to rip off the 1.5m who can afford it

Yip, you are correct. :) They way they do it now looks more like less internal expense for them. Supporting more connections and more bandwidth from increasing client base is gonna cost alot in infrastructure increase. Probably more so than offering 8Mbit.

They should increase the 384 b/s guys to 512 or 768...

They should just increase the 512k package. Since all the changes the 512k one was the only package that didn't see any free upgrade.

I live a couple of meters from the exchange. On occassion I get freaky weekends with weird speeds sorta like this : Speedtest , where I dream this could be real.

But sadly, I would also wish for lower costs of Bandwith and faster upload speeds, larger caps, oh and world peace(aka Miss Congeniality).

Jeepers, i really need to move. The best internet i can get is gprs.

Technicians don't know this stuff, and the people who do know are not allowed to tell you.

exactly , they might just tell u this so u dont change to their competition anyway why dont they improve their cables before improving line speeds they cant achieve properly without good cables!!!!

Here's Hoping...

First a Prayer:

"God! Please help Telkom (Hellcom) find the path of the righteous, make them of those that pay for the sins agaisnt all those who they oppress. God give Telkom the common sense to upgrade our 4MB DSL lines to 8MB lines for good of the people and also for the less fortunate make there 384K dsl Lines of a 1MB status leaving our dear friends with 512k with our old 4mb lines. God please give them this common sense, then next yeah let them give us 16MB lines. One last favour please give us uncapped lines."

Okay we all dream that one day telkom will give us what we want firstly with the 8MB line upgrade which i am waiting 2years for, I figured they have no choice but to up the lines if they want to remain ahead of the competition. But its not just that if they up the line speeds they gna have to up the caps, we all know praying for uncapped adsl but frankly it aint gonna happen not with telkom around anyway.

So instead we pray for a reasonable cap rate:
3GB International + 30GB Local for the Beginner User
6GB International + 60GB for the Intermidaite User
9GB International + 90GB for the Advanced User

New Bundles Could Be:

3GB International + 30GB Local + 1MB Line = DSL Fast
6GB International + 60GB Local + 4MB Line = DSL Faster
9GB International + 90GB Local + 8MB Line = DSL Fastest
&
16GB International + 160GB Local + 8MB Line = DSL Fastest Premuim
(Maybe they could spilt the local from the international too that be awesome)

That would solve some of the capping problems and line speeds, so fewer complaints from everyone.

Hey i just floating around ideas, if this could happen it be a step forward for telkom, and few less headaches from comsumers getting capped from rubbish.

now this is a good idea but still there lines itself are in bad condition and maybe 5 of 50 would even get 8mb sync stable , if they plan on giving 8mb lines they should fix old cables

8meg definitely is in the pipeline last I heard it was very much geared towards the RnD of Telkom Media, but we all know how that deal turned sour.... But 8 meg is the next logical step they will probably make 512k the entry level and then upto 4mbs and upto 8mbs... will see.... lol but as mentioned rather focus on what's wrong with current state of affairs....

Me stops day dreaming and returns to the world of capped 384kbps....

ass sazin the next logical step is make bandwidth cheaper

logic should tell you 8 meg and 3 gig cap just wont work

this is telkom though so logic escapes them
