Telkom ADSL 8Mbps :)

ass sazin the next logical step is make bandwidth cheaper

logic should tell you 8 meg and 3 gig cap just wont work

this is telkom though so logic escapes them

lmfao they make 8mb then vodacom will make a 16mb and mtn will try and copy lol dont ask me where neotel falls in this, but anyway telkom still doesnt even give most 4mb line customers full 4mb as the cables are messed up and they wont fix it so 8mb will only happen for people very very close to exchange maybe 2-3km because the lines will be good

Can't argue...

Okay i agree telkom lines are not in the best of shape... Most people get putrid line speeds and others get fanstatic line speeds. Not sure where i fall or how far from my exchange i am but my line downloads continuously at 350-427.9Kbs which is relatively stable all the time. But it wouldn't hurt to get faster line speed.

As for neotel they got interesting proposition but unfortunately i aint a fan of wireless communication mainly due to it being extremely unreliable. Speed are all over the place never really constant. Same with wimax if the pole moves a little in the wind the connection drops.

So that is the unfortunate reason i won't leave telkom even though they have bad customer service, pretty much controlling everyone but atleast they constant for me atleast...

As for MTN and Vodacome they can't go 16mb cause they don't have the bandwidth to support it cause everyone feeds off telkom one way or the other.. SAD

rift cheaper adsl and bandwidth = more customers = more money

telkom have no sense of how to make money

Actually they do and do it very well LOOK HOW THEY HAVE BEEN SCREWING EVERYBODY UP TO NOW:)

Well then lets hope they dug enough dirt up and replaced it with nice thick n fancy cables - or else they should be burned!

So this means those who are gonna upgrade to & currently using the upto 4MB service should get approx 750-850KB/s download speed, so around 3GB/h or 76GB/day , heh i wouldn't mind :)

BRING iT ON TELSCUM!!!

hope the price of hdds are coming down soon :p

Atleast our files from the PSN network & Xbox Marketplace will download faster :p

lol @ 384kers , If you pay for low end products you get low end service ( no freebies ) :P

*Holds thumbs for 4meg to 8meg*

agreed.

I think they should lower the price structure way more than it currently is. There is no sense in bumping the entry level speed up, but keeping the same price structure. Make 384 line rental something like R 30.00/month, which in turn will make it more accesable to families / individuals on a tight budget. The remaining obstacle would then be the cost of bandwidth. By Hicking the entry level speed to 512 but keeping the current price, you are still excluding a lot of people from being able to afford adsl.

Obvoiulsy all the remaining line rentals for the various speeds should be lowered as well. I don't see Telkom doing away with their cash cow (ADSL line rentals) anytime soon. Especially in the light of NeoTels weak offerings.

They've dropped prices for DSL rental almost every year. Why do you think they won't, especially seeing competition is getting stronger? I'd say most people (not on myadsl ofc) don't care as much about the DSL technology, they will go for wireless if it's cheaper.

I'm looking forward to 8mb, my line will should handle it fine.

Well after re-reading my post I noted that I made no mention that Telkom would lower their prices. I merely gave my opinion about what I thought could be done on Telkoms part, should they decide to lower prices. Hope you are able to sit comfortably though, seeing that you lyfao....;)

I have 4mb right now (with 6GB). So yes I will be happy if that goes up to 8mb, why wouldn't I be?

I know the cap is still useless but I don't have a problem with the speed increasing.

ok ok , and what if u dont qualify? they going to make this 1 even closer to the exchange ul have to be

great now you can eat through your 3gb even faster so they can cap you quicker,so you buy more bandwidth... those guys are smart

Two weeks ago I had a 4mb line. last week I had no ADSL. This week I have a 2mb line and no voice.

Maybe Telkom should try making what they have WORK before they try offer new services. Besides what's the point of connecting to the DSLAM at 8mb if there isn't enough backhaul and international bandwidth? I give up!

3GB one Hour... 4mb line

I would love a 8mb line but the capping story would pose a problem i was was test my dsl line this week. I was peaking 689Kb/s for about ten 10mins but averaging 400-425 the entire download session. Yes even during peak. I used 3Gb download sizes, to see how long it take to cap the fastest i could do it was and hour... on a 4mb peaking at 425-427kb/s.

So if the 8mb line were to come i think i would do that in half the time, and that would be awesome downside is the cap. Which frankly still is pathetic, but atleast you get 30Gigs local to play with.

Hey they never promised you 4MB line all the time they explictly mention if they can't accomadate you at that speed they can drop you line speed as required but not below 1MB cause that is the slowest you line should actual go.

As for no adsl i think that was some fualt in one of the exchanges that threw the system out for and hour or so atleast my area. Can't say anything about the voice part though

Just for the record i am not defending them just letting you know.
