Hmmm... I just peaked at 770K/sec for a couple of minutes. Are they fiddling around with this stuff 'cos that's 8MBit speed levels.

You not the first to expierence that speeds, it kinda happens alot that you have a sudden burst of speed i peek 790kbs for 5mins then 680kbs for half and hour before being dropped back down to 400kbs its just a glitch.

Which I think means telkom limiting us to 4MB lines for no reason cause they got the capacity to bump us up.

Guess well see what they do over the next few months

I just want my 4mb connection back. I was chatting to a mate in Zurich yesterday and he has a 24mb uncapped connection for around R350 a month. Man I hate Telskum!

I have seen this happening in London a few years back - I was there for a few years and also started with 1meg, 2meg then jumped to 4 Meg and from that to 8.... stayed on 8 for a long while and then came out with 16 two years back.... but all the ISP clearly states UP TO 16 Meg - I had a 16 Meg line, but because of the distance between me and the exchange was only able to get about 10... So whether it’s Telkom or BT, they offer these packages, but they can never guarantee the line speed.

Our 4MB line is syncing at 2048 because of stability, lines yada yada yada.

I downloaded something from MS website with a size of 195MB. It completed in 15min. The download also peaked at about 750. Ave speed at the end was about 235.

So maybe something is happening.

lets hope.

My 384 line at home downloads are between 35 and 45 consistently. Some downloads run at 110.

No, unfortunately those stats are pretty bad.

Basically you want the SNR Margin to be over +-18db and
the attenuation to be less than 40 db for 4mbps+.

Your SNR goes down for every speed increase you get, so guys who are already on 4mbps will have lower a SNR and therefore not need it to be as high.

I'm not sure what exactly you'll need to support 8mbps though.

I've never had one day's issue with my 4mbps line...so bring on that 8mbps. I live in a fairly new suburb so maybe that is why I have no issues.

im on 1 meg up to 4 meg , but ive had to tone down my line to 1 meg as else it cant synch ... the lines in our area are so fked up that thats the highest available.

I'm going to assume that because I see my line peak with speeds of 859kB/s that it can run at 8 meg. Bring it on biatches.

You can see a dialup modem peak at 10kBs, doesnt mean it can handle that speeds.

yeah well the fact that until recently the line never displayed those kind of peak speeds will mean I'll ignore your dialup analogy.

Well if you knew about adsl you would know to check your routers lines stats and calculate from there if you can support 8mb adsl.

The fact you had a peak in your speed for a few seconds means nothing.

Ja, attenuation is basically the distance from the exchange. It can also fluctuate with weather or anything that affects the copper lines. I suppose 57Db is possible on 4mbps, but I wouldn't have thought so.

Do you actually sync at 4096kb?
