Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Went to our local Telkom shop on Friday, the lady there said I could use their phone to cancel, geez it was quick, I think I was on the phone for a total of 15 minutes.

And today, right now, my ADSL its flying. Downloading LoadOut from Steam at a solid 500KB/s and browsing and streaming it great. Wish it would stay like this.

EDIT

Loadout downloading at 600KB/s on my 4Mb TI service. Awww fanks TI. ;)

:mad:Lucky you. I went to Telkom Shop Friday morning to downgrade from uncapped to 10 Gb capped. Lady says she is unable to do this and puts me on their direct line. What a farce, 40 min and waiting. Came home and put my phone on speaker whilst having my lunch. 45 min later all done and dusted. Signed up with AH for 4 Meg Uncapped. What a pleasure, this is the way to conduct a business.:)Now.

Woke up this morning, no adsl, no dial tone. Call 10210 and it sucks my airtime dry, drive to telkom at the mall, entire area (more than one exchange) is completely dead. Only came back up after lunch

This is odd in that my ADSL at home never went off BUT the phone line that it is connected to could not dial out or rang if dialed into. This is a separate line from the main house line which was dead. Wonder what happened O_O.

Just glad so far that internet is working. :) 153GB since Friday so not too bad :p.

I don't know how you guys are using torrents during the day. I've used 105GB this month, about 50% during the free downloading hours, and I'm already being "managed". Do you guys just ignore those throttling threats entirely?

2Mb, and I've confirmed with TelkomZA that I'm on the right profile.

Here's my algorithm:

"She-who-must-be-obeyed" and I can only manage to watch 1 hour of tv content a day, sometimes 2 if we can manage to keep our eyes open after 9 pm. The rest of the time we work, socialise, eat and sleep. So that's 30 to 60 hours of content a month, and if you count that all as HD 720p at about 1 to 1.5 Gigs per hour of content, it can run anything from 45 to 90 gigs a month. We have Telkom 4 meg uncapped, and my usage for the month is currently sitting on 60 gigs. Sickbeard and SABNZBd run on a dedicated download pc that's on 24/7.

I carefully avoid offering to download for friends or family. When they ask, I say "get your own uncapped, and go google 'how to download series and movies with the usenet and torrents' and see how you get on. I learnt how to do it, so can you. Or just get DSTV and stop grumbling.

In the years I was with Mweb, before their @#$% started, I pulled all the old classic films and series I wanted, filling a couple of HDD's in the process. So now it's just a case of telling sickbeard to get whatever I want that aired last night on UK TV.

So, yeah, when once upon a time I sometimes felt like I really was "downloading the internet", hitting 300 and sometimes 400 gigs a month, I was just building a collection. Nowadays I'm just topping it up. And my telkom 4 meg works a treat for that.

I saw that an old (1927) film came up on the torrent sites, so that was what I was attempting to download. First torrent I've tried in weeks. It sat dead for ages, but now seems to be coming to life a bit at half my line speed.

Probably using a faster account. I've never been "managed" (i.e practically the same thing as local cap...) on my 10mbps account. The threshold is much higher.

Earlier today, I was streaming Source quality Twitch.tv. It was truly magnificent. Now everything's back to crap...

I think hop3 has some serious problems

Noticed a few times today that pausing a slow download, restarting my router and then resuming the download maxes out the line speed. I assume this means my router is failing?

Thought I'd fire up the TI account to check how streaming is going... Quite pathetic.

Seems like TI flicked a switch at 8pm, all was going very nicely, 8pm came and now even local browsing is dog slow.
