Would like to thank Charl for helping me with my line!:D...upgraded from a 4Mbps line to 8Mbps and asked to lock it at 5Mbps, after upgrading and downgrading twice because tech support couldnt help me with my request..Charl the line works like a dream m8.. havent had a drop since the upgrade and the SNR values stay above 10 db as expected.. except for today sadly, I saw two techs with an unbranded grey opel corsa bakkie opening telkom's underground drains ,dont what they were doing, and now my ATT has gone up, but not by much. Any way my point is I'm glad I found this forum, keep up the good work dude :)...people, if you need help upgrading or have line issues this is the guy to speak to!!

Is there a uncapped ADSL alternative from Telkom if they don't want to install because of cable theft?

Charl AKA TelkomZA, its been a pleasure working through you. Hours of struggling with incompetent people on the line with no joy, and you managed to fix everything in a few PM's, I wish everyone at Telkom was as resourceful and helpful as yourself.

Thanks for everything, you have my gratitude!!

8mbps uncapped is R697/month from afrihost. Includes line and data. :)

nah need to see pricing with Telkom.. I have my data with Afrihost, and i want to go capped. i see the 8mbps line with AH is around 369 rand. so im hoping Telkom is a little cheaper, or there abouts in terms of pricing

Hi TelkomZA

Please help. I have the following fault logged since 18/10/2015 - # 565059634 for a line that keeps dropping and resynching with upload speed higher than download speed - still open and no resolution in sight. I was called by one technician who said he didn't understand why I was having problems as the exchange as it had allegedly just been upgraded.

Eldoraigne 012-653-xxxx port adjustments?

Hi TelkomZA,

I've always been fantastically happy with my DSL line (I still am), but I noticed something this morning that concerns me. At about 5:15am this morning it's as if somebody adjusted/redesigned something on my DSL port. My SNR figures suddenly changed and my latency jumped from 12ms average to 32ms average.

The log and the graph shows it in detail. My SNR has always been around 10.x down and 12.x up. This morning it jumped dramatically as can be seen below:

Nov 17 09:50:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.6 12.0 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 17 10:00:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.8 12.0 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 17 10:10:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.4 12.0 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 17 10:20:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.4 12.0 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 17 10:30:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.6 12.0 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
:
:
Nov 23 04:10:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.4 12.1 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 04:20:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.4 12.2 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 04:30:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.4 12.2 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 04:40:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.3 12.3 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 04:50:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.2 12.1 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 05:00:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.1 12.1 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 05:10:02 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 10.2 12.3 Rate (Kbps): 10239 1023
Nov 23 05:20:02 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.6 15.3 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 05:30:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.6 15.4 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 05:40:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.7 15.2 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 05:50:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.7 15.3 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 06:00:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.7 15.3 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 06:10:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.8 15.2 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 06:20:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.7 15.3 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947
Nov 23 06:30:01 ADSL2+ SNR (dB): 6.8 15.3 Rate (Kbps): 10238 947

I used to be able to sync at 15Mbit down/1.2Mbit up. Now it's (still) 15Mbit down, but 947kbit up. I know I shouldn't be complaining, but as I understand it, an SNR of 6.x on the down-link is rather borderline whereas 10.x is a lot more acceptable. I'm worried about stability moving forward.

telkom-ping-2015-11-23.jpg

I am pinging the first-hop outbound (105.228.0.5). Would appreciate any insights into this sudden change. There wasn't any weather or other anomalies at this time, so my first instinct is to say that the copper itself is fine.

Was there any planned work on the exchange early this morning (of the 23rd)?

thanks in advance,

I have also noticed a big change in ping to my exchange. Usually I get 7-8ms to my exchange, but now its 43ms at lowest. I game a lot and definitely see a big disadvantage.

How long do you guys generally wait for a response from TelkomZA?

I can imagine that TelkomZA is quite busy, but the work they do is very good. They are not bound by any SLA or minimum response time period. As such I, personally, don't "expect" a response - I report in this forum and when a problem is not general, I'll PM them with some more specific details. They do eventually get around to it though.
