I have understood it now, but not for ANY of the reasons mentioned here. NONE at all.

When the one player passes the ball forward, the second player, despite already being offside has to be in front of the player and the ball, which was the case for the 1st half miss but not the goal itself. Case closed.

I haven't gone through all the posts here (some hidden) but nonetheless. My comments. The 1st allowed goal was just on side. Both Klose, the receiver of the pass, and Podolski were onside at the time the ball was crossed by Gomez. If you get a chance to see it again, the linesman was not in line when the cross was made, and his angle gave the benefit of the doubt to the striker.

More interesting to note though, Podolski still won't celebrate when he scores against his country of birth. Fair if you think about it, but for me, his 2nd goal, it did seem like he celebrated - maybe finally crossing over. lol

Looked like he shed a tear on his 2nd goal and acknowledged the polish supporters.Henry never understood the offiside rule, he was going on about the fact there were 2 players behind the defense..

There have to be two players between the passer and the goal (including the keeper). The german players were both passed the last defender so there was only the keeper left. And the pass went forward. Offside.

If you know the offside rule, you would know that when the ball was played intially to get behind the defense and both players were onside then its fine as its impossible for them to be classed as offside even though they both alone behind the defense.

Did you see the miss in the 1st half from a similar incident? That was offside right? Cos player 2 was ahead of player 1 just...

No it wasnt the guy who picked up the pass was inline with the last defender when the ball was passed and so was the guy he passed it to.

If anything we can argue about was the fact he had his foot slightly ahead (doubtful) of the last denfender.

The rule states you no allowed to have any part of your body you can legaly play the ball with behind the last defender.

But their whole player movement was all legal.

With regards to the miss before the 1st goal; that was offside as Gomez became active the minute Klose passed him the ball. If Klose took the shot on goal himself and scored, it would have remained a goal irrespective of Gomez.

The controversy of the rule is judging when a player is active or not whilst in an offside position. Many sparked debates over this, for example blocking a goalkeepers view, drawing defenders away from the real attacker, the list goes on.

Good, then I get it and we agree :)

No he was onside, check the replay.Even alan shearer and lineker were looking at the review saying its impossible for it to be called offside on the bbc.

The only thing they were going on about was the fact he passed instead of shooting the ball.

this is why they should have left it the way it was

if your offside your offside, does not matter if you not getting the ball

silly rule change and i think alot of linesman get confused by it as much as we do

No this does not involve the rule change, he was inline with the last defender when the ball was passed. What is confusing people is the way he ran to pickup the ball, check the replay both of them are inline.

Dont bother man. :D

i have a sneaky feeling that the dutch will do well as italy never start a comp well, always just scrap through and then become stronger for some odd reason

dutch 2 ital 1

cannot call the french game but i predict a dull boring game with a good possibility of a Romanian draw or win

Same here I predict a 2-1 holland win
I think France will beat Romania, same score 2-1.

Still no upsets so far in the tournament but its still early.

Awesome goal, the keeper had no chance.

You think there is going to be added interest from clubs after that performance?

Well after the World Cup, Podolski was hot property already. Most of the players in the German team play in the Bundesliga but are very very well known names in Europe.

I think some of them choose to play for the national league.

Someone on this forum said that Poland stands a chance :D

The mighty GERMANS are here!!!!!
