Verdict
Although this review seems to praise the flagship Panda derivative for its pugnacious looks and nifty features, while criticising its budget-price build quality and on-road compromises, there is no doubt that the 4x4 Cross embodies fun and feistiness better than most products on the market, let alone those priced around it. For those who fall in love with its plucky charm, the Fiat’s shortcomings will be outweighed by its charisma and, indeed, strengths.
Just bear in mind that the Italian marque’s middling ranking in the Cars.co.za Consumer Satisfaction survey disadvantages the Panda compared with more conventional (even “boring”) offerings from most rival manufacturers… Once the (very) novel appeal of the 4x4 Cross has faded, you’ll have to live with the hatchbacks quirks and foibles. Having said that, the prospect of having myriad fun-filled adventures with your Panda is undeniably an enticing one.

Fiat's new Panda Waze is a social media butterfly
When the most popular model in the Fiat range meets the world's most social navigation system, the result is the Panda Waze - the technological gem which continues the model's mission: to make the smartest solutions, simplify and improve life at the wheel, while being affordable for all, claims the automaker.
The new Panda Waze special series is the first city car in the segment to integrate the Waze navigation app with the "Panda Uconnect" app, allowing them to be used simultaneously, switching between them with just a touch on your smartphone display.

The Waze is also the meeting of two vast communities: the 7.5 million Panda fans who have chosen the car, from 1980 to the present, as in the manifesto of "freedom on four wheels", and the more than 100 million connected Waze users worldwide, who actively collaborate by sharing real-time traffic information for the smartest possible travel.

The Waze special series marks a major step forward in infotainment with the integration of two unique smartphone apps: Waze and "Panda Uconnect".
In the digital era, huge amounts of data must be exchanged in real time and monitored using connected devices and user-friendly interfaces. So now drivers will only have to fit their smartphone into the holder provided on the dashboard and set off, connected and safe at all times.

The Waze integration allows the apps to be used simultaneously: with "Panda Uconnect" on the smartphone, Waze navigation appears in a box on the screen, with route instructions and the estimated time left to destination.
Naturally, the reverse is also possible, with the app in the foreground and "Panda Uconnect" as an icon on the screen. What's more, if fuel is running out or low tyre pressure is detected, an alert will appear on the smartphone display and the user can decide to select one of the best-priced filling stations or choose from the nearest workshops offered by the app; they just select the destination of choice and the navigator will suggest the best route for getting there.
In addition photos and videos shot on board the Waze will be saved in the driver's smartphone gallery, ready for sharing with friends: yet another original way of experiencing journeys of all lengths, with the certainty of innovative services and a smart, social navigation system.
Last but not least, the Panda Uconnect app also features the "Find myCar" service, to help drivers to remember where they parked, and "My Car" for checking the car's parameters, such as scheduled services, and consulting the owner handbook, as well as direct calls to Fiat Customer Care or roadside assistance. Finally, if activated the "Object Reminder" function reminds the driver not to leave things in the car after getting out.
Mopar® Connect, the new set of services dedicated to safety and remote vehicle monitoring, is available on the Waze. With the app, Mopar® Connect adds new connected services, such as assistance in the event of an accident or vehicle location following theft.
Moreover, it is possible to monitor some vehicle functions remotely, such as exceeding a pre-set speed or leaving a defined area on the map, and control door locking and unlocking. It offers greater safety, tranquillity and continuous control over your vehicle.
The Waze features the Cross look and will appeal to anyone who shares its social-media language – particularly Millennials. This new target want their car to provide the maximum connectivity and a distinctive style at an affordable price.
On the outside, the Waze is identified by the "Waze" logo on the front bumpers. Its urban, dynamic personality is also underlined by the black details, including the side mouldings, the side mirror caps, the roof bars and the door handles.
The external look is completed by the 15" wheels with a new burnished finish. The same youthful, dynamic imprint is found on the inside, where the new seat upholstery makes an attractive match with the new titanium grey colour dashboard.

Euro NCAP: Fiat Panda scores ZERO stars, Wrangler just one
Euro NCAP has released its latest batch of nine crash-test results, with the Fiat Panda scoring zero stars and the new Jeep Wrangler managing just one.
The new Audi Q3, BMW X5, Hyundai Santa Fe, Jaguar I-Pace, Peugeot 508, Volvo V60 and Volvo S60, meanwhile, each achieved a maximum five-star rating.
Euro NCAP says the “ageing” Panda, which it last tested in 2011, has now been “comprehensively overtaken by rival superminis in the race for safety”.
“With nothing more than a seatbelt reminder scoring points in Euro NCAP’s Safety Assist box, the vehicle fails to reach even a single star, a dubious distinction matched only by the Punto in 2017,” the safety authority said.
The Panda scored 45 percent for adult occupant safety, 16 percent for child occupant safety, 47 percent for vulnerable road user safety and just seven percent for its safety assistance kit. Interestingly, while Euro NCAP found the Panda’s passenger compartment “remained stable” in the frontal offset test, dummy readings of driver chest compression indicated “weak protection” for this body area.
The new Wrangler, meanwhile, comes with a seatbelt reminder and a “simple driver-set speed limiter, but no other form of driver-assistance system”.
It scored 50 percent for adult occupant safety, 69 percent for child occupant safety, 49 percent for vulnerable road user safety and 32 percent for its safety assistance equipment. In the frontal offset test, Euro NCAP reported that the “connection between the A-pillar and the trans-facia beam was damaged in a way that indicated the structure would be unable to withstand higher loads”. Similarly, deformation of the Wrangler’s footwell showed that the structure had “reached the limit of its integrity”.
“It is truly disappointing to see a brand new car being put on sale in 2018 with no autonomous braking system and no lane assistance. It is high time we saw a product from the Fiat-Chrysler group offering safety to rival its competitors,” said Euro NCAP secretary general, Michiel van Ratingen.
Interestingly, Euro NCAP’s tests on the Santa Fe highlighted an issue where the side curtain airbags of cars equipped with a panoramic roof could be torn during deployment. In response, the safety authority says Hyundai has “already changed the airbag fixings in production and early cars are subject to an official recall”.
The BMW X5 also suffered from airbag problems, with the driver knee airbag not deploying correctly in the frontal offset test and providing little additional protection to the driver’s legs (but it still scored five stars). A similar issue was seen with the 5 Series in 2017.
“Despite the work done by manufacturers during the development of their vehicles, Euro NCAP still sees a lack of robustness in some basic areas of safety. To be fair, the Audi Q3, Jaguar I-Pace, Peugeot 508 and Volvo V60/S60 have set the standard against which others are judged this time, and other manufacturers could do well to follow their example,” said Van Ratingen.
“The I-Pace, especially, demonstrates that future vehicles will be good for the environment but also provide high levels of safety,” he added.

The New Panda is celebrating its first 40 years and to do so, Fiat is renewing its functional icon and expanding the family with the New Panda Sport. The line-up now includes 5 trim levels, to represent the model's three new souls. It will now be easier to choose the version that best meets the tastes and requirements of a customer more attentive to city style, the Life soul in the Panda and City Life trim levels. For those who prefer a dynamic and characterful life, the Sport soul in the new Sport version; or for those with a yearning wanderlust, the Cross soul in the City Cross and Cross trim levels.
The New Fiat Panda therefore represents the natural evolution of an invention that has for 40 years always been synonymous with charm, ease of use and versatility. Happy 40th birthday to the Fiat Panda. To celebrate, the Italian carmaker has renewed its iconic city car. Here's what's been updated, plus the potential to see it in SA.
The Fiat Panda has been quite a success story for the Italian brand in continental Europe. Its compact size means it can navigate the confines of the old cities and it's cheap to own. Plus, for those adventuring types, there's a 4x4 version. No surprise its the best-selling city car in Europe.
Now for the 2021 model year, Fiat has introduced a Panda Sport and the range comprises 5 trim levels: Sport, City Cross, Cross, Life and City Life. In terms of engines, there's a hybrid, petrol, plus the options of compressed natural gas and liquified petroleum gas.
Visually, you'll be able to spot the updated Panda with its new front bumpers, rejigged side skirts as well as new-look alloy wheels. Inside, a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DAB digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has been fitted. For those wanting something sporty, the Fiat Panda Sport gains special 2-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, sport logos and the option of Matte Grey paint. Inside, there's a new titanium-colored dashboard, specific door panels in eco-leather, black ceiling and new seats with dark gray upholstery, techno-leather details, fabric side panels and red stitching.

Fiat has marked the 40th anniversary of its Panda supermini with the unveiling of the New Panda - an updated version of the current car that brings styling tweaks, new derivatives and enhanced technology.
Wearing a new front bumper, reshaped side skirts and fresh wheel designs, the updated Panda will go on sale in Italy this week, with a UK launch expected to follow by the end of the year.
Prices in its home market start at €8200 (£7450), but that factors in the Italian government's €1500 scrappage scheme incentive, so we can expect a starting price of nearer £9000 here.
A new 7.0in infotainment touchscreen is available, bringing smartphone compatibility and a DAB radio, while the new 69bhp mild-hybrid petrol engine option can now be specified across the range, having previously been reserved for the Panda Hybrid. Fiat claims a 30% reduction in emissions and an equal improvement in fuel economy over its non-electrified equivalent.

Hi guys, does anyone know what happened to the Panda in South Africa? I got the latest issue of Car magazine and I realized the Panda was no longer there, I then went on to Fiats website and it wasn't there either.
They recent relaunched the Panda locally a while a go and it just received a facelift so why axe it locally?
I know this is a Panda thread but does anyone know if we're getting the newly updated Tipo?
