I asked if the labour for changing the brake pads is not included in the service plan and I just pay for the actual pads, and the guy said no, labour for changing the pads is not included....only labour for the standard service.

Seems about right. Changing brake pads on my car cost around R4k with labour.

Labour for wear and tear items won't be covered under service plan...

But..., it's a basic Tata? :wtf: no offence but even R700 for brake pads would be too much, that R950 is also too much.

Doesn't matter the manufacturer or range anymore, you're always going to pay more at the dealership.

For easy things like this you're better off going to an independent...
 
Took the Bolt past Supa Quick. They took the wheels off and checked the pads. They are still good and dont need replacing. I am not going to tell the service centre that though and see if they going to try and sell me new pads. They could not find the model of pad that the Bolt uses though in their book so he took a picture of the actual pad and will let me know what make and model of pad I need, so when the pads do need replacing I can phone them a day or two before I bring the car in so they can order it for me.

You will get a call during the day about the worn brakes, not only that but the wipers as well as the bulbs.

I almost hope they do....because Tata phoned me after the last service to find out if I was happy with the dealership that serviced the car and if there was anything I want to bring to their attention. I am expecting the same this time around .... and god help them if they try and sell me brake pads.

I can get aftermarket replacement pads for my Indica LXi from the UK for £ 50.83 (@ R 17.81 to £ 1) which equates to R 905.28 - this excludes UPS shipping or local SA Customs duties - so I will check with both TATA and local fitment centres what the SA cost is and if it is cheaper to source them here, rather than having to fork out for the UK price.

Scored a bargain though with two items from the UK that were on a CityRover (re-badged Tata Indica) 'clearance sale' special from my UK supplier - which only took 4 days to arrive from the UK via UPS, who delivered them today:

1. Air-Con compressor (Genuine MG Rover part) for £ 25.00 (R 445.25) - I bought it as a spare unit, even though my one is still OK, as the normal UK price was 'slightly higher' at £ 431.14 (R 7,678.60)

2. Regulator assembly-electric glass - LH front door assembly (Complete electric window mechanism - Genuine MG Rover part) - also for £ 25.00 (R 445.25) - the usual UK price was £ 169.11 (R 3,011.85) - mine is making a grinding noise when raising or lowering the window, so it definitely needs replacement soon.

I also ordered some interior & exterior trim items & 2 MG Rover clothing accessories - total cost came to around £ 130.00 plus £ 56.00 shipping (R 3,312.66) and SA Import duties were only R 489.90 - for a total cost of R 3,802.66 - I shudder to think what the local SA cost from TATA would be for all these items I ordered!

I am really staggered, that is surprisingly expensive, i have always taken Tata to be a simple, cheap to mantain car? How expensive are other wear and tear items? clutch kit?

When I had to replace the clutch on my previous 2005 Indica LSi at 116,000 kms, in July 2014, TATA originally wanted to charge me the following prices:

R 3,079-79 - Clutch Disc (I guess this is made of Titanium at this price!)
R 1,604-30 - Clutch Plate
R 394-34 - Clutch Release Bearing

I queried this cost and eventually they revised these prices quite substantially - I can't remember how much exactly.
