The weight loss thread

For those interested went with an online prescription (onlinedoctorsa) which was emailed to dischem and i just had to go pick it up. Filled in the questions and submitted a headless/clothed picture of my body (assume its evidence of being overweight) at about 8 in the morning. Had the prescription within 3 hours and no majorproblems at Dischem plus a follow up from the service over whatsapp.

Cost was R250 for prescription and mounjaro 2.5 was R3640 at dischem. Every 2 months you have to refill the R250 prescription. Reason i went with them over my primary doctor was the doctors office wanted R750 a prescription.

As far as i can tell discovery wont cover cost of it as weightloss medication. Meds were paid out of my medical savings.

on my 2nd shot and all going well so far. My story. Got very big during covid. During 2022-2023 went from 181kg down to 112kg just using calorie counting. Maintained for a 8 months. October 2024 went on holiday (went loose), got covid, got incredibly stressed at work and then christmas holiday and woke up end of January at 145kg. Pulled the handbrake and trying to get back on track with calorie counting. Been fairly humbled at how quickly i reverted to destructive behaviors in such a short space of time.
11kgs down over 11 weeks. So far only side effect has been on the 2nd day after the jab i have a really bad head ache and minimal energy. Assuming thats more because i am not getting enough in on the day after the shot. So very happy on it except Dischem is out of stock on the 7.5mg and 10mg. Switched to clicks and going from 5mg at dischem to 7.5 clicks the price has doubled. So not sure how sustainable this will be if i cant get back to dischem. The one big thing i was not expecting was the desire to drink booze has gone. Only drinking during this was that blip in week 9 when had a work conference and social pressure.

Any tips? People don't believe me when I tell them I am overweight by at least 10kg. :cautious:

Does anyone here follow a high-protein and high-fibre eating plan? Should you eat 1g of protein per kg of your target body weight, or per kg of your current body weight? I get conflicting advice.

have a go with this in chatgpt, give it specifics of what you want and then just keep asking it to adjust for things that you see.

"i want a diet plan for monday-friday and grocery list that gets the below. all groceries purchasable in south africa, daily fibre 30 grams+, daily protein 110grams+ , calories for the day of 1,800. consist of 3 meals and a snack. "

does not give it 100% but lets you customise it to what you want and gives me a general good list to get a checkers 6060 delivery for.

You should track your waist line. Like hips, it don't lie.
You've been consistent with exercise for quite a while now. I suspect your muscle mass has increased somewhat and you are hopefully fitter than your BMI reflects.
Thanks, agree. From XXL to almost L size T-shirts and size 40 jeans to size 36 so I should be happy. :) It feels better if I rant & moan though. LOL.

OVERALL STATS:
Start 2023: 106.5 kg
Start 2024: 81.3 kg
Start 2025: 73.55 kg
End Jan: 72.3 kg (-1.25 kg)
End Feb: 71.4 kg (-0.9 kg)
End March: 72.00 (+0.6 kg)
End April: 75.6 kg (+3.6 kg)

Three weeks of leave and a week of not being able to run didn't seem to help my weight. Think I've also been snacking more than usual since it's getting colder.

Hey all still hitting the gym just havent been on here that much.

We did blood work before little guy arrived around 8 weeks ago and the results for my triglycerides were shocking, I am on fibrates but wasnt taking them and it showed. Just wanted to post this here what the proper medication can do, this also links closely to weight loss and the weight has been pealing off me in this period. Used chatgpt to mark the progress and its been great definitely on track now!

Height?

Started this year with near zero exercise, weight pushing 86kg.
Decide to get lighter first and then pick up the training. By April I had to change my diet from no/low carbs to heavy on carbs to fuel my training.

CurrentlyI’m at 72.x kg and eating 4000kcal a day on average.

Sunday I did a 140odd km gravel race and my energy in/out stats for the day (kilojoules, 4.18kj=1kcal) were as follow:

Literally ran out of eating time

Not going to comment on my starting weight, im a BIG guy, but i have bad eating habits, my whole life i basically just eat dinner, and despite being physically active at work ( 10000+ steps a day), i never loose weight. I recently started ice-skating again, and being top heavy didnt help, went to see our local Doctor, done some bloods, and he mumbled something about a metabolic issue.

I started last sunday (1st) on 5gm, first week dropped 5kg ( mostly water i would guess), second week 7.5mg (this week) 2kg down so far, then 10 for the last 2 weeks , Next month , depending on how the next 2 weeks go, might ramp up to 12 for month 2, but will cross that bridge when i get there

What has happened, is in the mornings, i find myself actually wanting to eat breakfast, small snacks during the day ( have a container with cut up dry-wors, and have small portions during the day.

Seems a super fast step up but if you handling it with your doctor that is impressive. Most things you read it takes people 3 months or more to get to 10mg not 2 weeks. Just be mindful that the doses accumulate as half life is something like 5 days in your body. So after 3 weeks of taking the meds the active ingredient in you can be 30% higher than the dose your on. ie week 3 of 7.5g you reach a peak of 9.9g in that third week in theory.
