The weight loss thread

After losing 12Kg weight and consistently doing cardio & resistance training for over a year, I have realized that spot reduction is really a myth. At least in my case as waist/hip size definitely reduced as is evident in jeans/trousers but belly still protrudes a bit, with difference being it protrudes from a L size T-shirt rather than XL size.

Talked to doctors in my extended family and it could be partly due to genetics and in their opinion, consistent hard work ahead for 2-3 years if I have to get to a reasonably flat belly. In any case, I was told to continue focus on fitness and not obsess about belly reduction. LOL, my family is blunt, especially all the doctors.

2 weeks on a cruise. So. MUCH. Food. And skipped a week of injections as they need to be kept refrigerated (or so I thought), so not going to weigh myself for the next week or two

One possible saving grace is the fact I averaged about 8k steps a day for the 2 weeks....

OVERALL STATS:
Start 2023: 106.5 kg
Start 2024: 81.3 kg
Start 2025: 73.55 kg
End Jan: 72.3 kg (-1.25 kg)
End Feb: 71.4 kg (-0.9 kg)
That is very impressive. Maybe I should start thinking about running since you are a runner. :p I feel already tired at the thought of it - nvm.

It's more about finding something to keep you active whatever that might be. Best to find something you can stick to doing every day without it becoming a chore to do. Consistency wins.

So, a size 36 jeans measures as size 38 when measured from inside and size 34 measures as 36 inch. I measured 3 jeans after I read about this so I confirm.

WTAF ?

Different manufacturers use different sizings... and I guess clothes shrink in the wash?

nee man. I could understand shrinkage but my size 36 & size 34 jeans (as per tag) are measuring as 38 & 36 so it is expansion. Someone told me this in a casual conversation and I refused to believe till I actually found a tape and measured it myself.

I only have jeans from PnP clothing/Edgars due to my cheapskate policy principle.

Ignore the muscle mass and body fat, I think those just go off generic calculations and are therefore inaccurate.
But I am very happy with my weight loss (wedding is in 23 days) and I can tell you I feel a major difference in my life.
I have spent approx R15k on this drug and its worth every penny in my opinion.

what is the process for going on semiglutides in SA? When i google it i get a whole bunch of dodgy online pharmacy's. Is it as easy as visiting GP for prescription and fulfilling it at a pharmacy? How often do you have to go back to the GP?

Side note for discovery, i understand medical aid does not pay but could you use your MSA funds for it?
For those interested went with an online prescription (onlinedoctorsa) which was emailed to dischem and i just had to go pick it up. Filled in the questions and submitted a headless/clothed picture of my body (assume its evidence of being overweight) at about 8 in the morning. Had the prescription within 3 hours and no majorproblems at Dischem plus a follow up from the service over whatsapp.

Cost was R250 for prescription and mounjaro 2.5 was R3640 at dischem. Every 2 months you have to refill the R250 prescription. Reason i went with them over my primary doctor was the doctors office wanted R750 a prescription.

As far as i can tell discovery wont cover cost of it as weightloss medication. Meds were paid out of my medical savings.

on my 2nd shot and all going well so far. My story. Got very big during covid. During 2022-2023 went from 181kg down to 112kg just using calorie counting. Maintained for a 8 months. October 2024 went on holiday (went loose), got covid, got incredibly stressed at work and then christmas holiday and woke up end of January at 145kg. Pulled the handbrake and trying to get back on track with calorie counting. Been fairly humbled at how quickly i reverted to destructive behaviors in such a short space of time.

I was on a 3 day egg-based diet. 10 eggs a day and not many carbs/sweet. Eggs are finished now and so is diet.

I just ate 1/3 can of condensed milk. LOL

Weigh in tomorrow morning.

They label one size down to make fatties feel better.

I love condensed milk.

Tried making a no sugar alternative but could never get it right. Used Evaporated milk plus artificial sweetener.

Weight refuses to go below 87 but got into size 34 shorts now, not too tight even after heavy breakfast today so not too shabby.

1 year, 13 Kg weight loss and waist size down by 4 inches from 38 to 34.

Considering the cruise and an operation, both of which caused me to miss 3 weekly doses between them, I'm very happy with the last 6 weeks' progress.

Definitely getting stronger due to Kettlebell training but resulting in no weight loss for almost 3 months now. Damn muscles and their weight.

4th month this year and have experienced no weight loss at all. For comparison, when I started journey last year, I dropped about 6Kg in first 3 months. I wasn't doing much resistance training back then though.

Need to look at diet & count calories now.
