Vodacom iPhone 4 Pricing Unveiled

is the iphone really worth it???

It's marketing hype and the scent of apples that makes the phone seem better than it is. There are other phones that offers the same feature set (and more) for better value.

Good on MTN though for showing some teeth on their pricing.

SA service providers really suck and their deals as well. when i was in the UK, the sony ericsson W850i walkman phone just came out and i got a contract with Orange with 1100min anytime, 500sms, 50min video calls, the phone and a bluetooth earpiece for 25quid a month... why cant such deals be given in SA??

379 over 24 months is just over 9k
plus R4800 IN AIRTIME and bout 1200 for the sms's n data bundle
so thats bout 6k value n 3 k for the iphone 4 16 gb
not bad
was there any payment upfront? for the micro sim n connection fee?

Well it's more like R4800 in airtime. R350 in SMS's. R2400 in Data (about R100 for a 150MB bundle).
So that's about R7500 when you paying R9100.

So R1600 for the iPhone with a 2 year warranty.

If I wasn't already in a contract I'd definitely get that.

No such thing, really, and I blame ICASA for not having sorted this out in their regulations yet. You don't get a phone for 'free' with your cellphone contract. Ever.
Well that's not true. Phone can easily be subsidised in the cost of other things, like SMS's, data or voice.

You guys with this iPhone... did you get that bumper that solves the reception problem?
From what I understand the bumper's are only for US.

I dont get the Iphone hype, I have converted about 5 users to the BB bold 9700 and they swear they are much happier
depends on the user and wot they'd use it for I guess.... makes no sense to offer it on such expensive contracts (only) like VC which like has been said, mainly for high end business users, paid for by a company... us normal plebs with the 'low' income :-) also want a shot at it.
Our IT guys in France, where the I4 has been available for quite some time, has done quite a bit of testing between different WinMobile phones, Iphone4, and BB9700, in terms of usability, actual real life battery time, keyboard use, emailing, etc, etc... and they recommend the BB9700 by far.
Up to each user in the end... iphone4 does have some reeeely nice features though... the person who had it to test really loved it.

depends on the user and wot they'd use it for I guess.... makes bad sense to offer it on such expensive contracts (only) like VC which like has been said, mainly for high end business users, paid for by a company, who most likely won't even make proper use of it... us normal plebs with the 'low' income :-) also want a shot at it.

The MTN prices mentioned here seems quite good for this kind of handset.... but alas, for me I don't use my cellula often enough... this would just end up a 'nice to have' expensive toy, still on TYTN2 will have a rethink when upgrade/renewal time is nigh in 2 months.
But for the younger guys, have fun!

In bundle rate: R 2.30 per minute
Out of bundle rate: R 2.85 per minute
Estimated 86 minutes per month

ROFL..what a 'bargain'

Can anyone tell me if there are any white iPhone 4s available yet?

Oh well, lets not make this a iPhone vs BB thread please. iPhone is the better phone and much more than just a phone. *flame*
Anyway, Vodacom pricing/packages is pretty crappy if you ask me, I was expecting better.

Just got mine from an MTN store.

MTN 200 @ R379pm (comes with free iphone 16gb, R200 airtime, 25 sms's, and 150mb per month)
I wouldnt call that a rip off at all....

What was your pay in?

What about the SGS? ;)

Now I'm totally confused! I was convinced the iPhone would be way too pricey! That's why I had decided on the SE X10 for my upgrade on 3 October. Now the shock - only R50 more and you get 150mb data free! WHICH ONE!!!!!!!!!!!
