Vox Fibre Feedback

Frogfoot will be setup in our complex soon, been with Vox for ages so thinking of them as fibre providers, 20/20 R816 is steep. Afrihost want install fees but the same monthly price.

From 1st of May 10mb will be upgraded to 30mb for the same price, on Frogfoot.

Dear Customer,​


Frogfoot, our upstream provider and the owner of the Fibre network infrastructure in your area, will be implementing line speed adjustments as of 1 May 2021.

After this date, 30/30Mbps will be the minimum Fibre line speed available on the Frogfoot network.

We will automatically upgrade these line speeds, in keeping with Frogfoot's service changes, at no additional cost.

The line speed changes are as follows:

  • 10/10Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 30/30Mbps
  • 20/2Mbps will be upgraded to an asymmetrical 50/5Mbps
  • 20/20Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 50/50Mbps
  • 50/5Mbps will be upgraded to an asymmetrical 100/10Mbps
  • 50/50Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 100/100Mbps
  • 100/10Mbps will be upgraded to an asymmetrical 200/20Mbps
  • 100/100Mbps will be upgraded to a symmetrical 200/200Mbps

Get it now as you're then due for a free upgrade to 50/50. Well, just confirm with Vox. I got notified I am going from 20/2 to 50/5 on 1st May.
 
Anyone else seeing increased latency, my everything went up from 3ms to 10ms.

Edit: Nevermind, must've been a loadshedding thing.

I contacted support and they said there is a break somewhere that Telkom has to fix.

There are 2 undersea cables down atm.

EASSy is down due to cable fault. SAT3 to Frankfurt is down due to upgrades.

If only there was another cable an ISP could use to get to Europe, maybe it can go from Cape Town, someone should look into this...

So this is what I have to deal with pretty much nightly from around 19:00:

Do iperf tests every night and send through the details to VOX.
 
I setup SmokePing this morning to check when exactly it happens and Vox just phoned to ask if someone can call me tonight around the time it happens.
