Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

Constant slowdowns today... Going from 425kB/s straight down to 15kB/s... then back up... then down.... then up.... then down...

Line stats are perfect, Afrihost is perfect...

*sigh*...

Edit: Let me rephrase that. It DIES every so often.

Was just about to complain about my Battlefield that keeps on disconnecting when I see they are working on the internet tonight.

I have been having similar problems. Then i manually updated punkbuster and it seems to be fine now :-)

You have exceeded your 6 hour usage limit and have been throttled. For more information regarding this, please see our KB article on usage limits.

I dont like that wording, since WA always said that they will deprioritise, not throttle. they ARE Throttling my line (because i overslept!) sort this out ASAP

We use a 2 tiered rolling window system between 6am and 12am to ensure our network is optimised to keep your account running smoothly.

From KB:
If you use more than a certain amount of Gigs in a 6 hour period, then your service will be moved to a lower priority until those 6 hours are up. Your ADSL account will then be restored to normal priority.
Similarly, if you use more than a certain amount of Gigs in a 7 day period, then your service will be moved to a lower priority until that 7 day period is up. Your ADSL account will then be restored to normal priority.

We estimate that deprioritised users will experience the following speeds, depending on network traffic:

50% of their normal speed during business hours
80% of their normal speed between 5pm and 10pm
100% of their normal speed between 10pm and 7am, including the whole weekend

I am not getting these speeds either! my 6mbps line is getting +-3mbps on http, and 190-200kB on usenet.

impressed with customer service, but not impressed with THROTTLING MY LINE. if i wanted that, i would use Internet Solutions.

international connectivity is intermittent, sat night 12pm+, same tonight 12pm+

I assume you have a 10Mbps uncapped account? If not, and you only have a 4Mbps account you have to remember that you will not get speeds higher than 4Mbps regardless of the time of day, or you line sync speed.

Just saying. ;)

hehe.

I have a 4mbps account...

4096kbps = 512kBps
512kBps = 30MB per minute
30MB per minute = 1800MB per hour
1800MB per hour = 1.7578125 GB per hour!

I didnt get that in 6 hours... let alone 1!

Something is wrong at the moment as i usually get about 7-8gb in that time!

Times that by 0.83 to adjust for network overhead.
A 4Mb usually does around 420KB/s usually.

hes got 6mb line so he can max hes account, normally got 500kbs on 4mb mweb with a 6mb line

I'm glad someone reads :P

But under normal circumstances, i would do the calculation based on the 83% network overhead :D

Bottom line is i am very happy with service from WA... they had their issues in the beginning, but im not so sure they have worked out all the kinks just yet... glad i have a 10gb Telkom backup account. Latency of 6ms to cpt is pretty decent!

Cant access any international sites at the moment. few mins ago I couldint access anything.

Today has been up and down like that for me too. Not often but once in a while. Sorts itself out in about 10-15-minutes.

Pain in the ass though.

Try rebooting your router if you haven't already?

That sometimes does the trick for me.
