Any suggestions for someone who enjoys whisky/whiskey and is looking to explore without spending a fortune?

I just had a look at what I have in my cupboard...

Bains Single Grain
Monkey Shoulder
Glen Moray Peated Single Malt
Muirheads Silver Seal Maturity
Speyburn Bradan Orach
Laphroaig 10 YO
The Glenlivet Nadurra

Which nadurra? There are 3. If you got the oloroso you got the right one

How's that Toki? It's pretty cheap for a Japanese whisky, and I've not had the best experiences with cheap Japanese whiskies. The Japs under R400 remind me a lot of the blended Scotch whiskies under R200. Harsh, sharp, violent. Not nice.

I see that Makro is listing the Lagavulin 12YO now for R 1350,00.

Seems WB were selling them for R 2790,00 but no stock.

I actually went to Woodmead on Tuesday after seeing it listed on the website as in stock there.
Based on my vague conversation I'm guessing it may be the 2020 Xmas release. The whisky buyer told me that it isn't in the store but may be available there month end, as the Xmas releases apparently tend to be.

Odly we only got the diageo 2019 releases this year in March. So i would be pleasantly surprised if we see 2020 releases this year.

It's actually not that bad, I put it in the same league as a JW Red or Jameson.

The Hibiki, OTOH, is superb: very smooth, and lots of flavour

Another cheap whisky option I can thoroughly recommend is the Glen Moray Peated from Liquor City, not all stores have it but it often goes on special for R299 and it's one of my favourite peated single malts (just don't expect Islay peat, it's not that).

They need to get it together. Website says R299, but shelf said R339 today.

Any recommendations for liquor stores in the Cape Town area (central, southern or northern) with a great whiskey selection?
