Wondernet Youtube peformance?

Anyone here using Wondernet (Seacom, Macrolan)?

After upgrading to 1000/100mbps I started streaming Youtube in 4k since I have a ridiculous speed for 1 user.

Since then (quite a few weeks) there are times (usually around 7pm) where they have trouble giving a smooth stream. I have seen 1080p being an issue as well. No packet loss and speed tests done at those times show I get way more speed than I need and Octotel says there is no congestion. No other download activity happens at those times (no other people here).

Youtube's stats for nerds section show at those moments that I have a terribly low connection speed.

After quite a bit of time with support, they suggest I test with a second device... Which is not always that practical to do. So I am curious about other people's experiences.

I also doubt my Windows 10 PC is the issue: i7-9700k, 32GB RAM, RTX 3070..
 
Look what an MTR looks like its Seacom, their known for bad peering your traffic might be going to UK and then back to SA meaning the ping to the server is about 340ms

Can confirm they have ridiculous peering, he should do an MTR and see what it looks like. My best friend actually worked for Seacon up until a few months ago and told me the complaint you have is what the majority of customers complained about. So it doesn't surprise me that they told you that you should test with a second device. Did they also mention you test directly connected to the router and that speedtests means nothing and even when you supplied logs and traces they still find that invalid?
 
I know they de-peered all the ISPs but very unlikely that they will de-peer content providers like Cloudflare, Youtube, Facebook, Netflix ect.
 
Just had a video get stuck a few times and after reloading the page, it took really long to get going. The connection speed shown below shows how it randomly drops to very very abnormally low speeds:

I took this snippet just after it got stuck so it has a buffer of about 12 seconds.

Ping tests to the CDN that I see for this example Youtube video (view source) has 1 to 2ms response time:

I had to tell them repeatedly that I am using ethernet, not wireless. They did not say speed tests mean nothing - they asked I do it 3x times, 5 minutes apart... Later they asked me to do it again... There was not a single log or anything that could prove that there was a problem other than a snippet of Youtube's stats for nerds.

1000/100mbps is just the best... Btw router has latest firmware and I never see issues when downloading game updates at up to 100MB/s.

Try using 9.9.9.9 and 1.1.1.2 DNS.

I was on 1.1.1.2 originally and to troubleshoot this, I switched to 8.8.8.8. I will try 9.9.9.9

Yeah I am sending that to the ISP (that mtr was for r3---sn-nx5jvh-j2ue.googlevideo.com). I should have done an MTR before, however not sure if its a big deal out of 255 packets...

I should probably just let tests like this run for longer - this one is for youtube.com:

Yep ... I am having the same issue on Wondernet. I am on 100/100 and for the last .. probably 2 weeks or so .. streaming youtube is really annoying. Stats for nerds show it starts up .. then at some point the connection speed drops and the buffer runs out and .. well you sit and wait. Then it starts up again (after a while) and ... the buffer runs out. Entire house has gigabit switches and the TV and playstation are using ethernet too.

Not *all* videos do this .. the more "popular" (I imagine cached locally?) stuff seems fine. Trying to stream some DJ sets and .... dead in the water.

I suspect they must have changed something around 3 weeks ago (could be more .. I'd need to check my chat logs to see when I was moaning about this to friends).

Of course .. Netflix in 4k has zero issues - and speedtest says my line is fine (backed up with the speeds I see downloading from clients networks and amazon etc.)

So I ran the MTR while playing a youtube video... I noticed the more I click around the video (to force it to load), the higher the loss percentage is. Sending this to them now as well.
