With those speeds you must be connecting to the same tower a few hundred metres away. Networks share towers.I went out to Bashewa AH today to test. Surprise surprise. I was expecting the SIM to not be activated which is always the case. The router booted and got LTE signal.
Downloaded a KNOPPIX ISO from ftp.is.co.za: 91Mbps.
Ping 196.25.1.1 with an average response time of 40ms.
Can't complain about that with no external antenna. Forgot to do a Speedtest.
As I indicated in my above post: I'm ignorant of these things and didn't know what to expect. I would be very interested to see the Telkom LTE speeds. Maybe, I will test that too at a later stage.
Besides the poor support and falsely advertised router (I'm assuming Afrihost will not do anything about), I salute them and MTN!
If MTN says you have coverage for fixed LTE, then you do indeed have coverage for fixed LTE.
I apologise for my outward frustration in the matter.
Thank you.
@Jake45 Yes actually I am waiting for black Friday deals to sign up for. And I will definitely look into those deals you mentioned. You are a star!@ShaminaA: If you are prepared to take a 24 month contract from MTN you can probably get a proper mobile package that can be used in any device for a similar price. MTN usually has some decent Black Friday deals that might be worth waiting for. There is a very active thread about the best Black Friday MTN data contracts.

You were rude. If you don’t explicitly cancel, it continues on month to month. but not with the bonus data, bonus minutes etc etc etc. That then gets charged at normal rates. So can get a nice surprise when the bill comes.mybroadband.co.za
These MyMTNChoice 40GB or 80GB 24 month contract bundles might be of interest.

What's the best P40 lite 5G contract. Between R500 and R600mybroadband.co.za
Another option would be to look at one of the WebAfrica/MTN Fixed LTE bundles. They sell refurbished B525 and B618 (faster) routers for R1000. They have a 50+50GB bundle for R319 per month and you can purchase a refurbished B618 (my recommendation) from them for R1000. You should be able to move to the ISP of your choice after several months as these are not contracts.

Does MTN give specific feedback on each logged complain or is it only something they keep in mind when planning future upgrades/expansion?The best is to get a couple of speedtests. We need to fill in a coverage and speed complaint and send it to MTN to give us feedback.

My speed has been half of what it was earlier this year and the latency has been unusable with a ping spiking between 100-300ms local. Speed and latency used to be rock solid until recently.
Whats the eta on a fix? ThanksPlease not we are aware of a MTN Fixed LTE national outage. We are working on a solution.
