Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

@Afrigirl @AfriNatic,

Afrihost Fixed LTE completely Down, no Network from 2022-10-12 11:50 ????
But my Cellphone using Also Afrihost is working Perfectly (Air Mobile Package).
So what is the problem? And how long still to wait for the Fix?

Hi, were are working on restoring the APN service for both Fixed LTE and Air Mobile packages.

Does anyone else experience issues with Afrihost ZTE 4G router not reconnecting to the mobile network after an outage/load shedding? The router is set to auto-reconnect but every now and then it doesn't. When this happens I can log into the router control panel and manually reconnect, but since the router is remote at my folks place I would like it to reconnect automatically after an outage.

I spoke to Afrihost support who was use[ful|less] as ever... they said the router cache has to be cleared after the tower goes down. Let's leave aside how annoying this is, you can't expect senior citizens to manage routers. Also, if the cache does indeed need clearing why can I log into the router and reconnect manually?

These routers are heavily locked down with firmware, so it's impossible to even view connection logs which makes debugging impossible. Is this just a garbage router and are there any other LTE routers that don't have this problem?

Whats up with Fixed LTE.. Packet loss like Crazy???

Moving my post to this thread as it seems more relevant:

Please send me and @Afrigirl a pm with the number you use for data.

There is a known issue where public IP's allocated to Android phones causes a battery drain. Android phones reply to packets sent preventing the LTE radio from going to sleep and that causes the battery drain.

The solution to this is to move your number to a natted IP to prevent bots on the internet from reaching your device.

Are you sure this is an Android phone problem? I am seeing the same thing happening on my iPhone, your post made me raise an eyebrow and actually tested it last night, as I've been having similar battery drain overnight for no reason.

Here's the difference between Afrihost and MTN overnight (±6% vs. ±18%):

LTE on (Afrihost APN)
22:05 : 42%
05:29 : 24%

LTE on (MTN APN):
21:47 : 39%
05:21 : 33%

Some nights it's more than a 20% drain:

This was last night's battery usage on MTN:

I know comparing above charts isn't ideal because the timeframe is different and so was the battery level, but you can clearly see the level of drain from 21 -> 03.

So is anyone else experiencing battery drain while using Afrihost LTE?

Yep, iv figured out it's because afrihost assigns a public IP by default and not a cgnat one, so Port scanners on the Internet are constantly Port scanning the phones causing the lte radio to stay active all the time, the solution is to ask for a cgnat ip.

More info about it can be found here: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/thr...tery-drain-explained-not-solved.985927/page-3

Can someone help me? I think I'm getting throttled. I'm on uncapped package.
Download 1.77Mbps but upload 17.70Mbps?
Anyone in George have the same issue?

Hi

Is this the Air Mobile uncapped or fixed LTE?

Looks like it might be tower congestion. What device are you using?

@AfriNatic. On 26 October my download speed suddenly dropped.Using October's statistics it dropped from an average of 144Mbps to 35Mbps. I logged a fault #NYA-879-14953 and #VHC-152-71624. At first the help desk tried to help by asking me to do speed tests. Up to now, the fault still persist and it would appear that the help desk can not comprehend that there are something wrong. They now keep referring me to the terms of "Pure LTE policy of speeds 10-150Mbps". This is not acceptable and I kindly request that this mater be escalated to MTN. The last three days the latency also increased from 17 to 35.
