Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 3

Does anyone ever have sound issues when playing youtube where it stutters and then just dies and refuses to buffer the video? This is on firefox, I also see slowdown on browsing and downloads at exactly 5pm, it picks up again a while later. Adblock is active, if that might be a issue. I have a lot of trouble browsing www.nag.co.za anytime of the day.

Was playing World of Tanks and streaming the cricket, no probs. 5:30pm, bam. Latency in WoT over 1k ms, cricket stream stopped. Can barely open Youtube or Afrihost site.

Restarted the modem, was still syncing at max speed, but no dice. Got the stream working again (sortof), but World of Tanks is unplayable.

Are you using Flash or HTML5 for Youtube? I was also getting that intermittent stuttering on some videos until I switched to HTML5.

What problems do you have with NAG.co.za?

My WoT Latency to the EU is around 220ms at the moment.

What sort of account do you have with us? Which DNS Servers are you using?

No change in the performance of the new accounts. :)

100GB capped (double up) account.

DNS servers are 192.168.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 if I recall correctly (not at my pc right now)

192.168.1.1 is not a DNS server address.
Afrihost uses 169.1.1.1 to 169.1.1.9. :)

Would you mind letting me know when you've had a chance to check?

What is the DNS for cape town? I can't find where I wrote it down.

I had no DNS set on my modem :3

I do have a static IP set up on my PC, and there I made the DNS 192.168.1.1 and 8.8.8.8

I changed the DNS on my PC to 169.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 now, and I also put it on the modem.

And again 80% packet loss international in the evening

You can either set your DNS to Auto, or you can use 169.1.1.1 and 169.1.1.2 :)

I have to confess, I am not the best with network related things.

Also, let me clarify. I have a modem and a wifi router. Due to the nature of the house the router is connected to the modem via LAN cable, and then my PC is connected to the router via LAN.

Now, the DNS settings I have to put in/change. I am going to assume it will be the DNS settings on the modem and not the DNS settings on the router?

To also simplify things, I have changed my PC to dynamic IP.

I then have (looking at network status):
IP Address - 192.168.1.104
Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server - 192.168.1.1
DNS Server - 192.168.1.1

ipconfig does not show any DHCP or DNS Server IP addresses for my ethernet port.

That's perfect, your computer is pulling the DNS from the DHCP gateway which should be the settings from the modem.

You will then have the Modem on Automatic DNS which means it will use the Afrihost DNS. :)

I don't think those results quite equat to 80% packet loss... You are not getting a reply from 83% of packats on the 12th Hop, but that could be because ICMP traffic is being dropped which doesn't necessarily mean your UDP and HTTP traffic is suffering 80% packet loss.
