Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

There's definitely a missing link in this arrangement. According to all my comms with AH, the order hadn't gone through. Then, via a whatsapp chat, I found out that they had sent it through yesterday in actual fact.

Then spoke to Vuma, and had to sweet talk them into logging/loading (some company jargon) the VT number that Afrihost used when logging it.

Now, as I understand, I have to log directly into the ONT device to test the connection. I have a Mac, with no network port.

FML.

I’m where you are right now. Luckily wife has an Dell with an Ethernet port. Let’s see what they trying to prove. But I’m not getting an IP address.

So im finally switched over to afrihost and guess what, problem not fixed :(. Just went through all that effort switching and no positive result :/. Can anyone please explain to me whats potentially going wrong? Octotel, 100/25 blouberg area. It seems no matter which ISP i go with my international speeds are 2-5mb. 2-5% of my line speed. Yet I have a mate that will do a speed test to the same server on vumatel's network also with afrihost pure fibre and hes maxing out his line at 20mb.

We should go through all the basic checks. Firstly, make sure you're using our standard DNS settings.

Can we see comparison of local and international speeds and latency. Regular speedtest should be fine for now.

Packet Loss. You can google the effects of packet loss on high latency connections. Speeds take a nose dive very quickly. You need to start putting pressure on Afrihost to escalate with Octotel to fix. It's going to be a long road but yeah it's an Octotel issue.

So no joy. Afrihost were meant to call me back but that didn’t happen.

Let’s see what day 5 brings besides my mobile data charges.

Wingnut changes ISP, complains, assumes the issue is with the ISP and repeats. It's hilarious.

i had serious packetloss to asia on HE, that's why i left you guys, and went on an isp search for whoever could supply good connection to 51talk.ph, so i tried home-connect but their ping was 400ms vs your 260 with loss, then tried macrolan which also had high asia ping, but both those isp's and your's RD performance was flawless, now i have awesome asia ping but crap RD experience, so go fly a kite.

hoping things get better.
the problem above started with afrihost.

Move to Gauteng. Your problem will be gone.

On a serious note that packet loss is horrific though.

Real debrid performance is perfect my side. Whatever is happening on your line or the routing from DUR to JHB is the issue not the actual network.

agreed, jhb is the place to be dude.

Streaming a 61GB 4K movie atm (I know its a bit ott) but im streching my proverbial bandwidth legs.... and it just runs flawlessly. That's just all i can say... absolutely 100% happy so far.
