The free service doesn't count towards the R5,000. It's 3 months - no matter what product you choose.
The R5,000 covers activation, cancellation fee and the router. Cancellation can be hefty if the ISP you are with add on a month of service. It really depends. If you think the router could be a benefit, like offer better wifi, or you can use your old one as an access node - go for it.
I think if you migrate you get 3 months. When I applied on the Afrihost site the banners said 2 free months. Is there something special I could have done to get an extra month?
Thanks for the mention.Packet Loss. You can google the effects of packet loss on high latency connections. Speeds take a nose dive very quickly. You need to start putting pressure on Afrihost to escalate with Octotel to fix. It's going to be a long road but yeah it's an Octotel issue.
@ArtyLoop
Octotel (Octofail) - You Have Been Warned!
If you're contemplating going with ANY (yes any) ISP that provides services via this Fibre ISP, known as Octotel, please be aware that you will be in for a world of pain. So far we know the following: * The network in Cape Town is congested, and Joe Botha, the CTO, gives not one **** about it...mybroadband.co.za
Streaming a 61GB 4K movie atm (I know its a bit ott) but im streching my proverbial bandwidth legs.... and it just runs flawlessly. That's just all i can say... absolutely 100% happy so far.
Well the problem is coming from Vumatel if I am reading correctly.Day 5 and this is what Afrihost tells me.

@AfriMan I wonder if Gary can help in getting my Openserve line released from Axxess? Iwill PM the details.

Hey Naeem, I think it's not going to be constructive to raise multiple queries through different channels. It's possibly creating more confusion as different teams try to engage with Vuma on your behalf.
I have our best people on this already, and I promise we'll get you the best (and quickest) result possible. Please let the critical care team do what they do. I know it's frustrating, but it's going to be better to work through one channel.
Thanks. I wasn’t sure anyone else was working on it. I was told to contact Afrihost in the morning.
Afrihost called now and said that ISP activation was not done. It’s now done, I’ll go home lunch time and check and hopefully be able to do a client activation.
I honestly don't know why in the year 2019 there still isn't a proper fiber migration process in place between service providers.
I notified Telkom on 16 July to cancel my services effective 31 Aug 2019 as I'm migrating to Afrihost. I eventually got confirmation on 3 Sep that all services are cancelled and that I can proceed with the migration.
For 3 days now Afrihost keep on telling me my line (B number) is not released to the holding pool yet so they can't pick it up for migration. So I phoned Telkom again this morning, only for Telkom to tell me that Afrihost can't make use of the old B number and has to apply for a new one from Openserve???
So I informed Afrihost this morning (via Whatsapp chat) and they are now proceeding with a new order. No idea how long this will take.
The whole migration process is just so confusing and frustrating. I still have the ONT at home so really hope this does not take long!
Thanks for the mention.
Have had flawless internet since getting rid of this rubbish. The pain has been the upload speed, so what I did was to get one of those WebAfrica LTE deals, and a bit of magic with a Mikrotik router and I've got a symmetrical (as close as I can get it) 20Mbit connection. Good enough for all my needs.
Openserve have moved my area into PLANNED status, so now we wait for the day they start trenching.
