So my cancellation fee has apparently been credited against my account towards future billing (R2288)... Okay.. So does that mean July, August, September gratis? October R1497 but R2288 credit so R791 credit remaining. November R1497 less R791 credit means R706 due?

I believe thats how it works yes....

I'm just (im)patiently waiting for CISP to release my line now...

Hey Pho3nix
The option to change your package generally becomes available when your line has been activated. Please drop me a PM with your client zone username and I will change the package for you.
Can I do the same pls.. Moving back to u guys on the 1st Aug..

Hi AfriFella

Seems like it. My router is reachable again from work. So I will check to see this evening what Speedtest reports as my ISP. Pretty sure it is Afrihost. ;)

Hey sand_man
Just to be clear, the pure fibre promotion has 2 sides.
1. There is a R5000 credit which covers installation, cancellation or activation charges for migrations or new installs.
This amount does not carry over and we won't credit the balance.

2. Clients who are migrating from another ISP can get up to 3 months free, new installs get up to 2months free.
I hope that this makes sense.

Hi

What do you mean by not "carrying over". So what happens to the cancellation credit ? Are you saying it forms part of the 2 or 3 months "free", and once these are spent - the cancellation credit is gone ?

I was under the impression : Assuming i start on 1 Aug with AH

- AH credits my account with the R1500 ( in my case ) because i cancelled with CISP
- August is free month 1 of the 3 month deal
- September is free month 2 of the 3 month deal
- October is free month 3 of the 3 month deal
- November i start digging into the credit on my account ( R1500 ) which means November is paid from this credit
- December i start my first proper payment ?

Is that not how it works ?

Probably means the LAN port is connected at 100Mbps. Check that it does indeed have a 1Gbps ethernet port router and device. If it does make sure you are using at least a cat5e ethernet cable. If all that checks out then try forcing 1Gbps in the router ethernet settings or on the device itself.

I think the devices does not support 1Gbps ethernet or you are using a cat5 ethernet cable and not a cat5e cable.

5Ghz wifi can easily handle 200Mbps down and 100Mbps upload if you are relatively close to the router. In my case the Telkom LIT box has a 100Mbps ethernet cable but has 5Ghz wifi so I put a wifi access point next to it and then connect it to that with wifi. Faster than the 100Mbps lan port limit.

This is my Ethernet cable, and when I plug that into my MacBook I only get download speeds of 100Mbps yet on Wifi I get 200Mbps.

I am using the standard D-Link router supplied by Afrihost, so what else can I check to see what is limiting my speed?

I have the same situation when I plug it into my Apple TV.

Hi Neville - is the ethernet NIC in your Macbook not perhaps limited to 100Mpbs somehow ? No Hubs etc between that and the new Afrihost router maybe ? That cable you have there can support 1Gbps - so it will not be that

So are you saying that even though I don't need the router I should take it?

I was expecting a refund of R2288 for the cancellation fee paid to Home-connect but Wendy in accounts mentioned a credit to be offset against future billing IE October and Novembers fees...

The cable is direct from the router to my MacBook via a USB dongle which is in turn plugged into a multi-port adaptor, as the MacBook does not have an ethernet or USB port. Maybe the problem is there?

How do I check the ethernet NIC in my MacBook?

That's how I understand it to work.

One of the sweetest fibre deals EVER!! My SO asked me what the catch is? I'm kind of waiting to see myself....

Yes you do not get a cash refund into your bank account. They credit your Afrihost account. After the 3 months promo you will start consuming this balance. Log in to clientzone and pull an account history. You will see that there is a negative balance so that is a credit Afrihost is "owning" you same as if you would be over paying an account. Your monthly sub will the consume that credit until such a time that it gets depleted and you will then get billed.

You should take the router because you will lose out if you don't. It would be free as it is also covered by the R5k so spend it as much as possible.

The catch is you pay R999 if you cancel or move to another ISP within 6months. After 6 months you are free to cancel.

For me if it stays the way it is currently no need to cancel but things do change just look at what Supersonic did to me.

Yes that is exactly how i understood it as well. @AfriFella - care to clear up the confusion, and confirm this is indeed how it will work for us please ?

I think it could well be that dongle. I recall the limit of USB to Ethernet is 100Mbps only ( speaking under correction ), so might well be the case with your adapter too..
