@AfriMan >> OpenServe have been to install >> what is next? Do I need to activate anything anywhere? Would be sweet if I could get things going by this evening??

EDIT: >> Thought I would give the Afrihost WhatsApp support a try – worked a treat.
Seems I only needed to reset the password in the Clientzone - and have the instructions now for setting up the router...

So fingers crossed I will be up and running this evening!

Once Openserve leave the premises after an install you can Dial a pppoe connection because the line will be active and working so speed things up if you want and ask them to activate the account or just wait until the contractor marks the install as finished in which case activation should happen automatically.

I want to say thanks to "Oscar @ Afrihost Fibre Ops | Pure Fibre XEY-145-29326 ". He sent me an email today while I was at work, saying that they managed to get my line migrated at home, without me even telling them that my previous ISP released it.

I checked this morning before leaving for work, and I was still connected to my old ISP, so figured they did not release the line and I had to wait until midnight. It was a nice surprise coming home and finding everything migrated and working.AfrihostSpeed.PNG

Thanks. Ja, I have a fibre reference number that I now need to give to Afrihost apparently. But after hours now... :(

You got the router already? You did try using the pppoe details yet?

If they aren't working pm Afriman and see if he can activate it or maybe you can use his test account until the morning.

When I signed up I selected a lower package. Can I change my order if it hasn’t been activated as yet?

As far as I know Liquid telecom are doing maintenance tonight in Cape Town from 8pm. And AH seems to use their network, so reduced performance may be related to that.

To be honest getting kak speeds currently

Ping: 4ms
Download: 21.17Mbps
Upload: 13.13Mbps

Ping: 6ms
Download: 23.05Mbps
Upload: 48.55Mbps

on a 100/50 openserve line

I'm getting line speed on Openserve 200/100Mbps. Are you from KZN or CPT? I think general location matter especially on Openserve because we know there are 3 IPC locations.

Up and running. WhatsApp support confirmed I just needed to get the PPPOE details in, and it should activate - which it did. Hitting high 90s/40s on my 100/50 OpenServe package via ethernet. A bit slower on devices- but that’s fine, compared to the 20/5 WISP was on.

Thanks for the help! Very happy to have this all sorted, all done in less that a week - nice!!

Nice. Yes with Openserve on a 100/50 line you should see around ~95Mbps download and ~48Mbps upload. Openserve is strict on these speed limits and they count the overhead as part of the line speeds.

My line is available. So what do I do know. I want the service activated on 1st of August.

If you definitely want to make sure you only start in August, then best to sign up then. We will grab your line as soon as it's available if you sign up now.

This is the first time that I've ever requested a cancellation and if I knew this was standard procedure I would have requested them to cancel the line when nobody was home - my wife is a stay at home mom, so right now she can't do or watch anything since we don't have DSTV.

What's more annoying is that both Vuma and Afrihost are telling me that the previous ISP connection should still be active and I should still have internet access. I have explained that I usually connect to a PC which I use to download from work, but right now I'm unable to. Also, my wife has basic networking knowledge which I've taught her over the years so I tend to believe her when she tells me that the fibre line is down.

This is the confimation mail from Vumatel ([email protected]):

Isn't that today???

If this isn't sorted in the morning, please PM me so I can get our guys to follow up for you.

Uh, Cool Ideas 30 day cancellation notice.
Now I need to stay on them till end August, before I can activate Afrihost.

Will this be a problem?

You can request an early cancellation with penalty - we will credit you to value of the cancellation costs up the remainder of your R5K credit.

You will have to still pay for August, see this as a "cancellation fee" - but ask them to invoice you for this amount, and send it to AH who will reimburse you this amount.

I am still waiting for mine to be issued.

Not to nitpick, but just want to clarify that we do a credit on your Afrihost billing account.
