Anyone else having issues with and only youtube?

Cant stream 720p on a 50meg line.
Me for one, @LordPhoenix_ZA too...

My line needed to be reactivated online this morning, not sure what that's all about but doesn't seem to have made much of a difference to anything... If anything it's worse....

So, sometimes I would download Youtube videos to watch offline or to keep for prosperity if they were online tutorials or DIY's. I use Internet Download Manager (IDM) to pull Youtube files.

Below are performance stats when downloading these files...

First up Afrihost Gigabit Fibre.... 87KB/sec!!!

Next we have MTN Mobile data, using my phone as a modem hard wired to my pc.... 16MB/sec!!!!!

Something is badly off here, I honestly don't have the inclination, at this stage of my life, to be trouble shooting s hit with an ISP. Jump through these hoops before and it's tedious. Giving it till the end of next week before switching providers.

The level of support, with the exception of what Afrinatic offers, is beyond hopeless.

I fired up my VPN and YouTube immediately started using all my bandwidth.

Good to know! Why that would be the case. The only thing I can think of is Afrihost rate limiting Youtube. Why would they be doing that?

If I'm perfectly honest, I really don't understand VPN's all that well. From my limited understanding, in a nutshell, VPN's hide your pc's ipaddress from the world.

I've used VPN's in the past and for me they'd fix one thing and break another. Got bored and uninstalled...

Hi Guys, My apologies for the delay in responding to your messages. Yes I will be around to assist you further with any issues you may be facing.
You Apologies but you have still not answered many of us. You also seem to know very little as to what's going for what.

Seeing some mentions of international sites disconnecting etc.
More or less similar problem. Maybe not.
In Mbombela (Nelspruit), I have already confered with several people in the neighbourhood, that also use Frogfoot, and none of them are having this issue. Only me, and I'm the only one on Afrihost.

At random, sometimes several times per hour, the connection just turns into packet loss mayhem. This lasts as little as 5 minutes, and as long as 20 minutes.
Little screenshot of PingPlotter just to give an idea.

There never seems to be any problem with my router (hop1), or the first Afrihost node (hop2).
But always, problems with hop 3 onwards.
Something just isnt right with your network, Afrihost.

Look at Those Average Pings! Look at that packet loss!

Dont worry, there are far worse...
This nonsense has been going on for at least 4 months now, and the last time I dealt with Afrihost support, the stupid lady had the gall to blame Frogfoot, and log a ticket.
No followup ever happened on that ticket, btw... Just silence. Not that it would have changed anything, as I can clearly see that the problem is Hop3 and onwards.

Please, @AfriGuy, @Afrihost-Gian, ANYONE!
Sort this!
Ai bro, we seem to be in the same boat with many other's. Tell me I see from yr screen shot that you are not getting any loss directly from first hop "yr router" but from the third hop as you mentioned. I'll send you a pic of my experience. Tried multiple routers and all same results. So this rules out the router as an issue.

Came here to check if other people are having issues with YouTube... It's been basically unusable for several days now. @AfriGuy , please advise what the issue is?

See people complaing in the cool ideas and websquad thread now as well. Opened a stream now and youtube streams fine. Maybe I am not watching enough to get the issue.

Hi @AfriGuy can you please assist. Upgraded my line last night to 200/200 and having endless youtube issues. Youtube videos just load and never starts playing. Never once had this issue when on 100/100

Edit
Tried now with VPN and youtube working. VPN swiched off it gives me a huge FU!

Stated a page on Facebook " Afrihost Fibre must get their act together " for those that want to assist me in addressing our issues and warning those before they sign up with Afrihost.

The past view days YouTube has been stuttering and sometimes drops quality down to 144p

Speedtests show speeds at 90% + of line speed (100/100).
ran mtr a few times, but there was no packet loss. Trenched Vuma Aerial

What gives?

There is some capacity issues for google in JHB that Google alluded to in an ongoing escalation with Google Noc.

They are slipping in more EU servers.

The outgoing path is still via google jhb but we are not 100% sure what reverse path is but it's looking to be via nap also which is an issue.

KZN and CPT should not be seeing as many issues due to on-network caching servers in these regions.

Yours seem to kick up a fuss at Hop 2.
Thats the first node beyond your router, which does mean it COULD be a Line problem (frogfoot etc).
Mine is Hop 3, so 2 hops beyond my router, which completely rules out the possibility of being a last-mile problem.

All bets from me are that its an Afrihost routing/propagation problem. And theyre ignoring me...

Ignoring me too and many other people in the same situation. Been like this for me from the beginning of February.
