Don't expect any response from them. We are not their target market, the uninformed masses that use their phones for internet browsing are.
Think about it, what is more lucrative? A couple of hundred (maybe a few thousand) users that use a few gigabytes, or a couple of million people that use less than 100mb per month?
This is why MTN and vodacon don't offer decently priced small data bundles. They are ripping off the low income bracket.

So as stated by many other people, vote with your wallet.
And for those how have no choice, go and bribe a Telkom techie or something, or even lay down the cables yourself
Hopefully, if they do not start listening to their customers, they will have a muti billion rand infrastructure system, with 0 users

I know of 7 people that I convinced not to sign up with 3g and opt for adsl instead. They didn't like the waiting period but when i showed them costs, they quickly changed their minds. 7 People might not be that much, but i'm quite sure quite a few people are doing what I do.

The wholesale costs per GB or MB for that matter refers to wholesale Internet access. It does not specify if it is shaped or not. Most probably shaped. Then it does not specify if the IP Connect with Telkom is included. Thus, where is the Internet made available? In Johannesburg? So how does the virtual operator get it to a customer in say East London?
If the access is over ADSL, then the customer will have to add Telkom line rental as well as ADSL line rental to get to the real costs. And then the benefits of access to the vast Vodacom data network available to more than 90% of the South African population has to be taken into account.
For example:
1GB Internet access R 20.00
Telkom line rental R 135.00
ADSL line rental (384kbps) R 152.00
Total costs R 310.00
Broadband Standard 1.2GB
prepaid or bolt-on to postpaid R 289.00
So in essence we are saving some what, Morkhans make this a sticky i think the forumites are missing the LINE RENTAL here.

Since the introduction of uncapped the line rental makes out a small factor of the cost when you realise you have unlimited usage. So while it's still a useful comparison of total cost. As soon as you start moving towards larger bundles mobile broadband doesn't look so attractive any more.
But yes, in the past many people missed the line rental and ADSL service as part of the cost of using ADSL when comparing to 3G. This issue at hand now really is what is a satisfactory response from the mobile operators to the current fixed line price cuts.

Guys lets paint a full picture when comparing Tariffs , at least in that way you can make an informed decision and not one that is biased due to the fact that you are leaving the line rentals out.

But then why do we, your loyal, High paying Customers who use more than 1GB a month pay for our "line rental" over and over and over?
surely the person using 5GB has covered his "line rental" costs for the month?

Very good point: I buy 2GB of data at least 3 times per month, therefore I end up paying for line rental 3 times per month!!!
VD, how can you justify a higher price per MB for bigger bundles when comparing 2GB to 3GB?
Let's paint a full picture, a picture that is around 4 years old.
Vodacom priced their 2GB bundles @ R389 in 2006. This was when there was no Seacom, reliance on Telkom, expensive switch gear, etc.
Are you saying that 4 years later, the best Vodacom can do is increase the bundle by 300MB? I think not.
Yes, I agree you cannot pay R8/GB for HSDPA as there are other costs. But it doesn't have to be R8/GB, just cheaper than R289/GB, etc.
Fine, leave 1GB like that. Do the sum on 10GB please...

You could always replace the R29/GB with the R19/GB unshaped from Axxess. I believe Vodacom does not shape any traffic on their 3G network.
And as you have done picking the ADSL fastest option is a bit more in line with 3G speeds. Other people are quoting 384k services.

Most of the guys complaining about 3G prices are people using it as if is a fixed line device. Vodacom currently does not have a fixed line service and so it is unfair to compare ADSL to 3G. We need to compare apples with apples.
Very true indeed, but the speeds im getting the last few months (four or so) aren't close to 4Mb. They can limit my speed to 1mb I won't mind that either.

Yes, we know speeds have improved, (a lot in theory, relatively little in reality), but I will happily stick to 3.6 at a lower price/Gb. Not that it is that important any more, by the time I'm back in SA I will have ADSL...

Hey if they could include line rental for a monthly fee to the heavier users who have absolutely no DSL connectivity then they must do it.
If Vodacom wants to keep its bragging rights about have the most broadband subscribers, things have to change.
Look what Jannie did at Iburst to the people who had no other alternatives.
They incorporated the line rental and their gig prices dropped.
They were very controversial with other things but they listened and gave the people what they want.
I understand how the Vodafone brand reacts to competition, but it has to start being alot more innovative if wants to succeed in SA as a real ISP.
Foreigners are going to experience the joy of 21Mbs first hand at a huge cost and im sure they would assume its prices would not be as astronomic as Vodafone UK.
It will create a hell of alot of negativity towards SA telecoms and could very well have consequences to the overall brand.
If Vodacom is serious about being a true ISP, they have to start behaving like one and start talking in GIGS.
There is no way people can afford to drive a 21Mps modem with the fuel prices for the modem being so high.....

What we really need is for the mobile operators to be a little competitive. Nothing you or Vodacom say can justify 4 year old prices im afraid.

Say you want 10Gig on a 4Mbit line, it will cost you around R1k - you could actually get uncapped? On Vodacom, its around R2k...
