Right, I agree with all you said but I am just using fast.com as a quick example here and trying to get to the bottom of it.
Local access I am never getting under my 200Mbit, been testing any time of the day. So if this is theoretically a vumatel issue I should be affected locally also, right ? This is where I am having an issue with it being a vumatel issue and not a coolideas saturation issue unless I am misunderstanding everything pretty much.
When I notice the shoddy fast.com speed, I do all kinds of international tests and it all lines up pretty well with fast.com and I highly doubt (obviously not remotely possible) that all international tests I do all peer at the same location in JHB. The point I am trying to make is that during the day until 12am all international access I can test from twitch to youtube to downloading torrents from reliable fast seeds etc. seems to be all over the place whereas after 12am it is rather conveniently all returning excellent near max package speed.
I am not trying to blame anyone other than trying to figure out how this can get resolved, if it can get resolved and specificly what is at fault for the congestion during the day on international link.
Agreed, will you give me your ticket number? Also which router are you using? We would never recommend you engage with Vumatel directly. It seems that we have similar issue but in different times. On my 200mbps link with Vumatel and Cool Ideas...international speeds drop to 3-20mbps to all international servers from 6pm to 11pm, in the mornings is the same. The best speeds I get really are from 12am to 6pm when international speeds are near max line speeds... pretty much when I mostly need my internet I get 3-20mbps (ADSL speeds).
I dont know anymore whether it is Cool Ideas or Vumatel as both are blaming each other... Its pretty much dejavu from years ago when I had ADSL with Afrihost, Telkom blaming Afrihost and Afrihost blaming Telkom, yet me as customer can suck my finger and just pay high monthly fees... in fact they dont care.
I would appreciate if anyone else close to Weltevreden Park can post some international speedtests on their 200mbps fibre link...it might help establishing who is to blame
I have opened a ticket withCool Ideas and communicated with both parties but nobody is responding anymore for the issue.
I think at the end of the day, Cool Ideas or ISPs in general have to take responsibility and resolve the issue, whether they need to involve Vumatel or not, because we pay the ISP the monthly fees, not Vumatel. I think Cool Ideas blaming Vumatel and getting us "the clients" engaging with Vumatel is just terrible customer care.

This also sounds like congestion on the Vumatel network, is it aerial?

No just on aerial there is more of a chance of congestion due to the PON side of things. Is it better to bury the cable?
You are doing these tests from your phone? Not sure if these results are considered normal for international on 200/200mb.

Lol, thanks for the massive screenshots Looney and thanks PBCool for quoting them!!![]()
Yeah, too lazy to get my MacBook and cable it. Such a mission![]()
Thanks we have taken this issue up with Vumatel, we are getting more reports like this in the similar area and have escalated to their CTO myself. So will try have this resolved asap. If it was us limiting the service it would be affecting all customers not just random ones.Hi Paul, it’s trenched fibre. [Ticket ID: COOL-20171213-62075] My router is Asus RT-Ac68U and all connected via Gigabit LAN. Last week Vumatel came and replaced the CPE but that didnt resolve the issue. Yes I agree its congestion but who will resolve this congestion? Put it this way my connection is literally unusable 70% of the time, considering that I mostly use international servers/services to work and stream.
I asked you on email to kindly push this issue to get resolved as soon as possible but didnt get an answer. Vumatel is quiet about the issue as well.
Thanks
You're welcomeLol, thanks for the massive screenshots Looney and thanks PBCool for quoting them!!![]()
I don't see an issue with getting 142mbps to NYC, the london speedtests are fine as well, just international school of london is a bad server for some reason.
But also best to do speedtests via cable.
