I have been lurking on this thread for a couple of weeks now as I am literally a mouse click away from signing up with Cool Ideas (as soon as my fiber is installed). But the recent comments are giving me pause for thought. My question is should a go with some other ISP?

Vuma trenches is apparently very good network..

How much is the install?

Get fibre and if not happy give month notice. Many ISPs on Vuma..

But yeah.. Silence past few days is #deafening.

the radio silence by @PBCool and @TheRoDent is deafening, but they will gladly take my money for a shitty service where they can't even give feedback on whats been done

It is not as simple as you make it seem due to the fiber providers keeping them in the dark, as soon as FISP confirms they have issues then they need to account financially for that I don't see that happening.

CISP have responded numerous times here asking for some time to try and sort it out with them, but we moan every 5 mins about the issue and how cr@p they are etc etc, contstanly over and over and over
CISP was never compelled to part take on this thread but they did, probably never again, leaving everyone with just the official support channel, including the people that don't suffer from FISP issues.

Yes I am one of them that have zero problems, good single thread, good multi thread internationally, full HD Twitch / Youtube any time, speedtest servers are in my mind a bad representation of true line speed, just to many variables, not completely worthless it does show other usable data.

Someone here did a mikrotik to mikrotik bandwith test which I liked a lot.

I do have sympathy for the struggling guys and I am sorry it is happening.

My 2 zim dolla, if you like it or not. Have a lekke day and hope the issues get sorted !!

Depends on your fibre network but you should be good on Vuma. I've been on Cool Ideas since last year July, Frogfoot network, and I'm extremely happy. My line is also used mainly for streaming, 4K on Netflix, 1080p on other devices and then random browsing and downloads, big uploads to Dropbox. Yet to have a single issue or one minute downtime besides regular planned maintenance.

What line speed do you have and what speed does the single threaded speedtest to london give? Would like to know what's a realistic expectation :p

My guess is you're with Vumatel trenched and in JHB?

Aside from rapid attacking (my opinion) PBcool at one point I don't think anyone here is being unreasonable. I'm not asking for hourly updates or even daily but once a week shouldn't be unreasonable and if Octotel IS stonewalling CISP then tell me that. I just want to know whats going on, whatever that is. I've always respected PBcool because he's always (as far as I can tell) been honest and upfront with whats going on, that's all I'm asking for here. This silence is erroding my trust.

As for all the stuff with Octotel going to court. Well if you don't tell people what's going on they'll try fill in the blanks themselves.

Haven't tested in a while will do for you when I am home. 50/50

In searching to see who Octotel really is (at this point in time I now believe it to be nothing more than a bunch of people with no track record, except strong book knowledge from Stellenbosch University)
Google led me to saflii's website, and on that website was the Western Cape High Court Roll for the 2nd week in January and on there was Octotel PTY LTD vs Amobia Communications, getting an interdict.
I did this search to try and find out who we are dealing with here, and to see why this is a company that hides behind the ISP.
My assertion is that if they were serious about what they do, they'd have a rep on this forum. Nearly every provider in SA has a rep here. They've had long enough to do so.

The court case has to do with Buhrein Estate. Amobia has a 10 year exclusive contract with the estate but somehow Octotel trenched almost the entire estate, wanting to provide their services.

Oh I see, thank you.
Maybe they should focus on fixing their network first... before trying to provide more services, that eventually nobody will want because its slow as lard.

I get what you are saying, but if you take all the rampant posts of everyone from 3rd party view it gets a bit much fast and I see no way for CISP to cope with this from a response and tracking of issues perspective for every person, then we make it worse to post speedtest after speedtest for the same issue over and over, hence they might have stopped responding completely on here :(

This is a feedback thread - and those posts are feedback.

As per this post yesterday:
Getting canned replies now:
Octotel have gotten back to uis regarding our query.
They have confirmed the fibre connection is stable on their end.
Please check your connection status and let us know if the issue persists.

Erm, sorry to be a party pooper but it happens every night...

There is no Octotel issue now? Since we have not had any feedback in a week - we can only accept that the current situation is here to stay, so those slow speedtests, and lack of feedback, are relevant to anyone considering Cool Ideas as an ISP.

I got this a bit earlier (after my cancellation was confirmed):

Good day

Apologies for the late response

i will get you feedback today regarding the packet loss

Apologies that we provided you with bad service and a poor customer experience—it is the exact opposite of what we pride ourselves on. We value our customers and understand how important it is to offer exceptional service.

Should you need anything further, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you.

My guess is they don't have nearly enough support staff.

Funny that considering they aren't doing anything to change the customer experience.

Mine still not acknowledged - wouldn't surprise me if I have to get the bank to reverse the debit order next month.

There are people with no issues.....

Response is voluntary..

Damn, so is Cool Ideas not providing support via MyBB anymore then?

I'm not having issues on Openserve, but when forum support jumps ship it's never a good sign for an ISP.

I consider myself a fair person which is why every person who asks about CISP here I tell them my issue is with Octotel NOT CISP. I try to make that distinction very clear. My biggest issue with CISP is still their lackluster ticket system.

I continue to post my speedtest results here in the hope that I will get some kind of response from someone, even if its via PM. I just want to know whats going on, even if its that "we don't know, we're looking into it." I understand people aren't perfect and stuff doesn't get fixed instantly so time is needed but I still require someone to tell me its being looked into or at the very least they are aware of it.

The last piece of communication I got was "fill in the excel sheet when you have issues." With everyone leaving is there even a point to that now?
