will try the Linux distro idea..

I started the download on Sunday morning, so got averages (been monitoring) during the day, and night and then last night 17:00 throughout the night.

So that during the Free time and Capped time, and what would be a quiet time 0:00 - 05:00 this morning when I left for work.

Hi G

Sorry you having hard time with torrents, not sure why.
I downloaded a 26GB torrent over the weekend on my 250GB capped CW account on my 4MB line and was getting close to full speed
(360 - 420kb/s). On my normal http downloads normally goes at 450-470kb/s.

I also did a 10GB torrent last night at about 10pm and was mostly getting close to full speed before I went to bed last night, not sure during the morning hours since I left it running and it was finished when I woke up at about 5am.

Hi Bossman,

My previous experience also, always tried to be considerate... but the last week, been a joke... un useable,

G

Hope you get your account sorted soon, I would also be really disappointed if I was getting your speeds.
I normally either run out the last few days of the month or barely make it with the 250GB data,
so not sure if your issue is due to shaping on the account or not.

Would be interesting to find out what the issue is/was.

I have never actually noticed any shaping on my account since using CW.

I'd say keep pushing support, and push them from every possible angle.

Personally I had problems with my business capped account after the account makeover at Crystal Web recently. It took me a month and a half to get the problems sorted out, and I only got them sorted out because I wrote to billing@ and told that that I wouldn't pay my bill until they at the very least figured out which account I was on (at that point I had heard 3 different answers - yes, Crystal Web gave me 3 different answers to the question "which product am I paying for?"), but now my account is back to working fine again, although I haven't downloaded anything (big) for weeks now.

It's just sad that their view is everything is fine, I have to diagnose the problem, and proof to them I have a problem, They not doing anything from their side, other than no we don't do this or that, and then in the next breath, oh well if we doo... it's in the contract, allowing us to do it.

How's your experience been with CW?

Any word on the fibre development in Walmer? Lots of orange fencing and fibre cabling in places atm around 6th Ave. I asked a worker around the corner from me who they're working for, and they said Nokia on behalf of Telkom. Would love to know what sort of time frame this is on. If this entire side of Walmer needs to be wired up before being placed on the system it could quite a while...

Yeah, I agree it's nonsense. I think part of the problem is that there's not a lot, if anything, they can do from their own end. The way ISP's work in South Africa, they're stuck between a rock and a hard places when it comes to faults.

of course they want me to run WinMTR... oops, I use a MAC.

MTR (short hand for "My Traceroute") is originally a GTK (and terminal) Unix app. I'm certain there are Mac OS X versions of it out there, if you're interested. In other words, search for "MTR" and not "WinMTR", which is the name of a Windows version of the program.

I see my GOG Downloader downloads crashed to less than 1MB/s after 6pm. I really hope this isn't an ISP issue. Will test tomorrow. Speeds are still poor. Was running at 3.5+MB/s prior to that time.

grin, hmmm, hehehehe...

well the downloads finished, after what, about 72+hours.

And thats only because i stop, restarted it every time i could when the performance took a dive, so tried to take advantage of that first couple of unthrottled/unshapped performance, otherwise it would still be running.

G

Mac.. There is your problem.. :crylaugh:

Sorry could not help myself.... Hope your download speed get better soon.
