Home-Connect ISP Feedback

I also got the same email... Does this affect other ISP'S as well. Thinking of moving to a cheaper 50Mbps option.

First month on Home Connect (20/20). SA connections are good, international streaming is very slow like 500kbps. Is that normal for all ISPs - do they all share the same pipe to the US and are all slow? Or are some much better / pay for more bandwidth internationally?

Seems to be an issue with Home Connect. I am on a 50/50 line. Maximum download speed is between 2-3Mbps for international downloads. What I do find strange is that SpeedTest.net results show damn fast speeds of about 30Mbps, but the moment you start downloading from any server abroad, from any country, it drops to 2Mbps.

if you running windows, try tcpoptimizer 4
run as administrator
set slider to your linespeed
choose optimise
save and restart.

bummer, good reason to move on then. who's your fiber provider again?

Evotel.

Unfortunately, they are the only Fibre provider in our area. I considered scaling down, but then again they may limit international downloads to 500kbps if I do. So, for now, happy with 2Mbps downloads on a 50Mbps line.

I'm considering Home-Connect as an ISP on Octotel (I have no other option), can anyone confirm if they actually pro-rate the cancellation fee for free installation and activation? It seems they are the only guys doing pro-rating, everyone else wants you to cough up the full amount which is +- R2000.

it is pro rated and you need to send the router back to them

How is HC on streaming from international? Looking at HC as an option vs AH and Axxess.
What service for international? Kodi works well most of the times with RD. Seldomly it struggles but guess that is across all ISP's. Stability of service much solid than my previous ones.

Anybody else on the 200/200 package (Frogfoot)? How much are you paying? The website says it cost R988, I'm paying R998.

I have been with HC for going on a week now and have had consistently good speed and latency for everything from streaming to gaming. My only gripe with HC so far is the calendar month notification required for any upgrades to the service! So if I wanted to try a faster line speed I would have to wait until the 1st of January 2020 , Ridiculous.

I got activated on the 200/200 option on 7 November, but only getting speeds of 100/100. I have the Tenda AC6 router. Phoned support and they said that the router can not handle the faster 200/200, and that they will exchange the router with an AC8. Any comments or advice here?
In my opinion the AC6 is definitely capable of speeds exceeding 100mbps, and the literature also supports my opinion. I have the router connected from the ONT to the WAN port of the router with a CAT6 ethernet cable. I know the wired LAN ports on the AC6 can not do faster than 100mbps, but surely the WIFI should be able to?
Getting my AC8 today, so will test and update.
Anyone else on the 200/200 and getting the speeds?

Like you state, the lan ports are limited to 100mbps. So your wan port is probably 100 as well. Limiting the output to 100mbps as well. Your fastest point is only as fast as your slowest port.

They sent me their bigger model because i went for the 100/100 package. They should have sent you the stronger router from the start.
