@Topdawg and other questioning changes / bandwidth upgrades Let me just clarify a few points:
Firstly regarding the Seacom problem that occurred recently, that was an isolated incident related to a Seacom link failure - if I recall correctly between Marseilles and Mumbai. There is no ongoing problem related to this and service was restored in just over an hour.
Regarding queries raised here regarding file sharing sites and degraded p2p experiences. We have noted and investigated these queries and there is no configuration problem causing these experiences. P2P traffic does have the lowest priority and the p2p experience will deteriorate during peak hours and when network load increases. We always try to give the best p2p experience possible without compromising network performance, but please remember that it is a shaped and contended service and there is no guarantee of these speeds.
We do monitor the overall P2P experience on a constant basis and this is one of the benchmarks that we use to determine network upgrade requirements, but please understand that upgrades happen periodically on a forecast basis and we cannot simply add additional bandwidth at the drop of a hat when we see a dip in p2p performance. P2P users as a rule will always use up everything you give them and the more people who use it, the less there is to go around
Regarding bandwidth upgrades, as I've stated in the past, bandwidth requirements are reviewed and adjusted on a regular basis, both on the IPC front and when it comes to international capacity. However we do not communicate this information to the general public, or to our staff and any such feedback which you may have received in this regard from one of our call center agents is pure speculation on their part.
Regarding feedback and support on these forums I would just like to clarify that both MWEB Guy and myself are full time MWEB employees and official representatives in this channel. MWEB Guy is here to answer your day to day queries and provide technical assistance where required. However as a general rule we do not focus too heavily on discussions regarding p2p as we have stated our policy and the expected experiences in this regard on numerous occasions. If you have sought technical assistance as an individual and feel that MWEB Guy has not provided you with the proper feedback then please bring it to my attention via a PM and I will make sure he pulls up his socks
My role on this forum is to answer your questions in the broader sense regarding policies and network status and to engage in discussions such as this one and MWEB Guy will call on me for assistance as and when required. This does not mean that you can't approach me for assistance as well, but please understand that I have many other duties and if you want a speedy response then MWEB Guy is your man.
Kind Regards
Will
