Holy *****, what is going on? Can't access my ftp or download from it? International is slow as hell.

My axxess prepaid is running at full speed, so must be mweb?

Why dont they throttle based on individual use instead of application/protocol/torrent?

I mean imagine if I'm a new customer and have not downloaded a single MB from filesonic or whatever its called. Should I be penalized because other people download 100s of GBs per month? Doesnt make sense to me.

Not that I even use filesonic or fileshare or whatever, I just dont think its a smart way to manage traffic. That would mean if the guy who pulls 200GB in a month wants to use something that is considered high priority, he gets the same speeds as everyone else.

The problem, if I'm understanding Mweb at the moment, is that they have lost capacity on their major trunk which is through Seacom. This means they are allowing port 80 traffic but are trying to limit everything else until they get the capacity back, everything else being torrents. fileshare etc. My problem is that my gaming traffic is being lumped in as well which is a problem for me, if any downloads take longer, don't really care.

As to restricting on a usage bassis, that goes against the whole policy of a shaped managed network. Shaping means that a pool is available for use by the clients, if the clients chose to use the availability of the pool at the time to pull large amounts, thats fair because it was available. You cannot penalise them at a later stage when the pool is smaller as all cleints had equal oppurtunity and access. As long as the downloads are not port 80 or ssl to avoid the shaper, it doesn't matter.

Not that I'm happy about my gaming traffic btw, just saying.

Why/how have they "lost capacity on their major trunk which is through Seacom"? What do you mean?

then they should have informed their customers of the problem and i'm sure they would have had a lot fewer cancellations.

communication communication communication.

no notice however...

Isn't there a fault at the moment on the main cable link?

*EDIT* hmmm I can't seem to find anything but it was what I was hearing around.

Could MwebGuy or Will then care to explain the current bandwidth restrictions and the reasons for them?

must be some miracle, but everything's working again.

download's back to full speed. filesonic downloading yet erratic, but its much better than nothing. email, youtube and facebook back to normal. not tested steam yet.

thanks mweb, i'll have to rethink my cancellation again.

AFAIK the last SEACOM outage was for one hour a few weeks ago.

what i don't understand is that mweb got network problems every last week of the month, more or less since their uncapped offerings started? pls explain this to me.

Will@MWEB has said that they are expecting additional bandwidth to come online soon.

I know but what caused the sudden loss? My troubles only started two weeks ago and as can be seen by others in the thread, have a very regular cut in, cut out time. Either something failed or ......

oh look, Mweb is still faulty! 5 more hours to go of this non-functioning tripe, and i'll be on openweb!
