apparently this is an issue with the telkom uplink to PE and the cable is being repaired ...
 
Finally able to stream properly , seriously if I wanted to be a guinea pig I would have chosen a different isp
 
New Webafrica package on Openserve and price drops. Same FUP though. 10/5 Openserve is now R399 all inclusive

So here is a comparison of Axxess vs Webafrica to the same speedtest servers and same trace route to 51talk.ph on an Openserve 200Mbps line. Webafrica is surprisingly perfect lkatency and speed wise especially single threaded speeds to London. :thumbsup: So apart from the Nasty FUP for Openserve fibre uncapped they have a pretty solid network on Openserve.

I noticed speedtest now automatically selects a server that's actually close to me. Solid performance locally and to London. About 40% line speed on single thread which is very good. Let's hope this resolves and streaming issues...

Their new pricing is also much better. 100mb uncapped pro openserve is ~40% cheaper.
 
Streaming issues aren't resolved for me on my 20Mb fibre, capped. I have to switch to axxess for it to work. Speedtests and traceroutes seem fine though.

So that shows the Axxess and WA networks to be remarkably similar in fact.

Which makes it even stranger that @Hypnza experience is vastly different between the 2 same ISPs.

There must be something else at play here. Perhaps the IP range in which Hypnza is allocated to, is routed incorrectly. Would like to see his traceroutes.

If you are talking about Twitch.tv it's perfect for me.

Yeah Echotel mostly use Liquid and then Liquid uses Chinatelecom Next Carrying Network backbone for the Asia transit which is actually really nice to provide low latency to Asia. Not sure what cable they use but 156ms to the Philippines is well amazingly low :unsure: maybe something else going on here (looks like hosted in HK)

* downloading Ubuntu from various mirrors (note the lack of of a "k" or "M" for "releases.ubuntu.com"... so that speeds in BYTES) - admittedly only for 10 seconds then killed the downloads:

So I do agree things don't quite add up... if I had a guess (and I'm not a networking guy) it's like international traffic is just super throttled? Because local speedtests and downloads are all fine.

After 80 minutes of enduring inane "Did you know" questions on hold we reached a "Support assistant" whose willingness to assist was completely eclipsed by his woeful lack of competence.
While admitting complete unfamiliarity with the term "object number" he still insisted that the problem lay with Vumatel, saying he would have to open a support ticket with them.
Needless to say we still have no internet nor any further response from WA.
Methinks moving on to a new provider might be a Cool Idea.

ftp.osuosl.org is similar on both accounts.
mirror.nus.edu.sg is terrible no matter what. I wouldn't use it as a benchmark.

I do however think, that 10 seconds is not enough to judge, your result will be very random because of TCP on high latency destinations.

Full speed waiting ~20 seconds. Ideally however you should test a single thread speed over 60 seconds to see what speed it stabilize at.

ftp.osuosl.org is in US west coast, too many other networks can influence the speed, but its ok in my opinion.
Edit: Ok I just noticed this ftp server resolves to many random servers all over the internet. In no consistent way. Your speed test to it, will completely depend on which one gets picked.

Can only watch at 160p again this morning, which is more like watching blocks. Switch to Axxess and 1080p.

39642 BYTES vs 9583k... I left this running for several minutes with no speed improvement on WebAfrica. The IP was off by a digit at the end (so same provider just different mirror hopefully), between attempts, but did it several times switching between ISPs with consistent results.

I do however see, you are on Openserv where I am on Vumatel. Most probably shaping on IPC. At least, that is my best guess.
