No Data connection but full signal

Was waiting for an Android a.... to make comments like these. Cannot be true as you try and get an iPhone from Cell C - NO STOCK since December! Maybe they have, but keeping it back as they don't want to give it out due to the data network issues.

Rather move to a network subsidized by the US government, then you can support them in full....

The one simple fact remains that everyone is ignoring. Cell C was working fine, until one day. It was as if a switch was flicked! Not a gradual decline. This proves that they issue is technical (LTE switchover?) and not just qty's, etc.
 
ok so i got a call from Cell C a few minutes ago.
during that call i explained my issues - no data throughput when my phone is showing HSDPA + with full signal.
(i have been forcing my phone onto GSM only and this seems to give me some throughput some of the time. better than nothing)

low and behold on switching to HSDPA only a few minutes ago my data throughput has been great, at least for the last 10min or so i have had a steady fast connection.

- i will keep you all posted with news on how reliable the network is. i am currently in JHB CBD simmonds street.
- have been having the same issues at home near monte casino, i will check that out when i get home to day and post back with more info.

Strange issue this, I was in Fish Hoek, CPT this morning and I had full signal with 3G on my phone but no data throughput what so ever.

As soon as I am out of FHoek (back towards town) it's all fine again.

Rather annoying
 
Cell C data appears to be afraid of the dark. If it looks like the sun is going to go down then BAM no more internet for you sucker!

Yes you have a valid point there AggiesMTB, this was not a gradual thing, it almost happened overnight in the first week in February 2013.

I now notice that websites do not timeout any longer, but they take a hell of a long time to load, about 2kb every 5 sec, so loading a 286kb web page takes ..... well you do the math. :D

Cell_C rep contacted me today asking for details, so some progress there, hopefully the tap will run a little faster than 2kb in future.
 
When I used to use Cell C, I noticed that when my RSSI dropped below a certain level this issue would occur. I assumed it was a distance issue related to the "Near-Far-Effect". Maybe power run away type effect can also explain the crazy heat that emanates from the modem.

As previously mentioned, suddenly there are too many subscribers on each base station, the issue isn't really a lack of capacity, but that the base stations only really detect the users closet to the base station, or with highest SNRs.

Anyways that's what I always assumed the problem was, but maybe someone here has more knowledge than me.

and the Horror Show continues. On speedtest.net my downloads speeds are averaging 0.18Mbps in the last 1 hour. Its like watching " Nightmare on Elm Street " This suspense is really too much for me.

I think this is exactly the issue here. I have an interesting find. I tethered my mobile to my PC and ran a ping... 0% throughput on HSPA+. But, make a phone call to any number (customer care for example) if the call connects 100% throughout at blistering speeds!
So, a work around which works for me (very irritating though) is to place a call to customer care and send the answering computer in a circle with options.
So far the only work around I have found.

If what you saying here is true, well done you just discovered what the problem could be "Harmonics".
Harmonic Interference can be a real little devil to identify if you not looking for it specifically. (I'm a Ham Radio Hobbyist)

Cell_C Techs gona have to get their calculators out and start the equations to make proper filters for this, no wonder they can not find the problem as it keeps moving around, between 900 - 1800 and now the 2400mhz frequencies, bet the LTE switch on in certain areas brought this hard to find devil out. :cry:

But who is gonna tell them this?.... Can the CellC rep at least reply to tell us that this information will be escalated to the RELEVANT, HIGHEST authority. Not the mediocre everyday network team?...

Yesterday I submitted my official complaint to ICASA regarding this crap service from Cell C lately.
 
i got a call yesterday.
i was told it is due to congestion in certain areas, i was further informed that in the next 4-6 weeks new sites will be going up all over the place. so it would seem Cell C is a victim of their own success?
 
No improvement in Fourways. CellC is rubbish don't get it if you stay in Fourways.
 
OK not sure if Cell C fixed the problem in my area see speed test below, will check throughout today.
