No Data connection but full signal

Been having these issues in Sunninghill since 2011. It got better most of the way through 2012, but came back at the end of the year and it's really bad now. I have to constantly disconnect and reconnect to get pages finished loading. As always, signal is full and it connects to HSPA+. I've stopped getting pissed off even. Report the problem? Don't make me laugh. I have dozens of their reference numbers.

Oh, and the Cell C head office is literally ten minutes up the road from me. Gotta love Africa. Feel it. It is here!

I will add, however, that I've stayed up past midnight to check on my Giga20 package. It's allocating the data to the correct bundle and I'm currently getting around 300kB/s sustained download speed. Very impressive. I just hope the connection holds up.

I have had this for over a year in Illovo, Joburg.

In my case it is worst during business hours, seems to be congestion related.

I can also confirm that this happens to me too. With my blackberry bold 9900 and with my Huawei p1. Very very annoying and I won't receie emails and message until I turn network off then on again or sometimes even switch the phone off a couple of minutes and on again......

You can imagine 140. They advised that both my phones are broken and that I need to send them to cellc for repair..... Hmmm yeah right

Most of the time during the night the connection usually seems fine, so it does look like a congestion issue, not just on the towers but on the whole network. Advertising great deals and not being prepared for the influx of people, especially if your company has gone through this before seems very short sighted.

Is Cell C network still down?

I have four Cell C numbers here all with no data!

I tried 140 waited for ages, got a ringing tone and pick up after the music on hold and was promptly hung up on! Oh to design a reverse taser button for a cellphone!! :)

I really wish that Cell C could give us some answers. Tell us what the problem is. Not ignore us.

And not be an evil company.

Example of problem, with good reception :

Test Date: Feb 15, 2013 9:42:10 am
Connection Type: Wifi
Server: Johannesburg
Download: 366 kbps
Upload: 85 kbps
Ping: 285 ms

Note : This is actually a good result, most of the time the test does not complete.

It seems like the Hatfield area is a problem for data. My son studies at Tuks and stays in a commune in Hatfield. He tried CellC for data but it was cr@p. So he change to 8ta but it is just as bad. He has no problems with voice calls but anything data related is bad. Lately he is lucky if he gets 15-30Kbps

I don't think that the company is evil, they just employ a good percentage retards! The same goes for Telkom!

In my eyes they look evil. I am quickly losing my respect.

I bought a Giga 200 package because I am in an area with proper coverage. I get a good signal but at peak times I get no throughput. So I contact the Cell C rep and he takes my details. A week later I ask for an update and he ignores me. Threads like these get ignored.

I basically bought something that doesn't work. I ask for help and get ignored. I look at those around me and they have the same problem.

That to me is what an evil company would do. Sell snake oil and take no responsibility. I paid a lot of money for nothing and Cell C doesn't care because they made money.

It's not fair. I had to buy 8ta bandwidth because Cell C's doesn't work. In my eyes Cell C should pay for it. Which won't happen of course.

Google once said that they will not be evil. Cell C is. From what I have experienced they do not care about the customer.

It's a shame.

I also agree with the above poster. Tried to raise this issue with them on their facebook page and the comment was conveniently hidden.

I have sent a message to the CellC rep on this forum and they said they will contact me back. Still no call. I spoke to a CellC rep at 140 and they said they will send someone to TUKS to test the network within 6-7 days. I'll believe that when I see it. Changing Sims today going to Voda.

I have personally spoken to Cell C rep year and a half ago about this problem. They are fully aware about the problem, but did not do anything about it except at some stage collecting our user information data. Good luck to anyone who thinks that something will change now.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else experiences a similar situation, but I have basically a non-existent data connection in the Hatfield area, namely on TUKS campus. I live in Faerie Glen/Olympus just outside Menlyn and I have the same problem there. I have perfect gsm signal and calls are fine. Data... not so much. I checked the coverage map on cellc's website and its supposedly perfectly covered. There is a huge CellC problem especially on the TUKS campus.

I don't know about Hatfield, but I do know that in Faerie Glen/ Olympus the 3G is very patchy. Edge is relatively well throughout.
Parts of Hatfield has no Edge but does have 3G.

Been having the same issues even with voice calls. I've been on MTN for the past 3 years and in the office (Sandton area) where i sit I never had any issues. I switched to CellC and now I can't use my phone in the same office because of the bad signal. I have to walk outside our building every-time someone phones me or I need to make a call. My phone however shows that I have almost full signal. As for internet browsing it also says I have 3G and when I try browse it can't open any of the pages I'm trying to access, it doesn't even switch to edge. When I logged calls they were supposed to send someone to come and test the signal but they never came. I phoned again and they eventually called me back a few days later and they said that the utilization on the Sandton tower is maxed out at 100% and that they are going to upgrade or fix it next month or something like that. Who know's.

Same thing I have. I work in Parktown North. Full or nearly full signal... Cant get any data, voice or SMS?? Been promising me for months to sort it out...

On my S3 the data connection will just die out all of a sudden, just turn cellular data on and off then its fine again, same thing with my router when using cellc but again I just turn it on and off, have been having the problem for about 1.5 weeks

I have the same problem in CT, data connection just goes away, easiest just to go airplane mode and back to reactivate the data connection, but damn it's frustrating.
